John Podhoretz: The Line on Delay
NRO's The Corner ^ | September 28, 2005 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 09/28/2005 8:12:26 PM PDT by RWR8189

Next couple of days there will be a lot of gleeful liberals and Republicans claiming that this really does make it possible for Dems to take over the House and Senate in 2006. Here's how it will work. Comparisons, immediately, to the indictment of powerful Democrat Dan Rostenkowski in 1994 adding to the sense that Democrats were out of touch with ordinary Americans and helping bring about the GOP landslide in November 1994. Corrupt Dems in 1994 = corrupt Repubs in 2005. Add to the DeLay indictiment the talk about Bill Frist's stock sale and you have major-league talking points for Democrats all over the country. People will say that as it was with Rosty and the Dems, so it will be with DeLay and the GOP. There will also be comparisons between Bush's problematic poll position in 2005 after Katrina and Clinton's troubles after the failure of health care in 1994.

Brace yourself. It's gonna get ugly.

We will see and hear from more Clintonistas in the next few weeks than we have since impeachment days. I'm queasy already.

Who cares? Tactically, tt's too early to pull this. This will all blow over well before election time.

Let the kooks fume and scream for many more months. By election time the swing voters will be sick of them.

I understand the concern, but Delay is getting out in front of this pretty effectively, and if he can make Earle the bad guy, Delay will have done a lot of damage control. It won't work with semi-literate Dem voters, but nothing within reason would reach them anyway.

"There are a few differences between now and the time of Rosty: one party is engaging in Stalinist tactics while the other did not, one party is rabid with hatred while the other was not,"

Rosty went to jail while Delay will not.

If it hastens the day when the GOP starts to understand what is at stake here, and the nature of the war we are fighting against the left, then this fabricated indictment might actually do some good in the long run. I don't have a lot of confidence that that will happen, but it could. We will see how much the Pubbies learn to play the game if, in the coming months, we start seeing Federal indictments, no matter how tenuous, against the likes of Pelosi or Schumer. Or better yet, this clown DA in Austin. I don't care what the indictments are for, so long as there are some.

Ah, the NY/DNC media are running rings around the conservative press, as usual.

No wonder Coulter called them girly men.

Can you imagine the liberal press saying this about their guys?

LOL, NR whiners are pathetic.

Really, this reads a little like Tokyo Rose to me, especially after what I read earlier today:

I've already had that happen. Liberal friend and debating bud hit me with the Rosti line in his first shot. ;)

"Also, Rosty was a crooked as the day is long while Delay is not." THAT is the key to this partisan act by a desperate party of corruption and degenerate public policy ... yes, the democrap party we all know depends upon abortion of alive children to e,power them at election time. What else would we expect from such degenerate bastards? Trump up chrges; 'It's the seriousness of the allegation, not whether the allegation is true,' as Rush is fond of saying.

And that's saying something.

It won't be hard to make Earle the bad guy because that is exactly what he is. After what he did to Kay Bailey with the phoney charges when she was running for the Senate, I wouldn't trust that man if he said the sky was blue.
