even on this thread, people are criticizing Pataki - the only guy who did ANYTHING on this.
this explains Hillary's move last week - that LMDC is packed with NYC liberals, they must have tipped off Hillary's people that this was coming - this is why she came out against it.
still, we need to watch this. this NY "authorities" like the LMDC have alot of autonomous power. I don't know that Pataki can order this be done. Now of course, he may well have put the finger on the members to make sure they vote a particular way - and he's got this in the bag, hence this public statement. early on, it appeared that the only way to stop this would have been to disband the current LMDC and reconvene another one - which would have delayed the project. perhaps Pataki used this threat against the current LMDC - he's not running for anything in NY, he's got nothing to lose.
I recommend the IFC be located to a suitable place - the New York Times building.
he has less of a chance at the nomination then Rudy does.
The fact that a government official has this kind of authority over the redevelopment plans for Ground Zero is precisely why there's still a big gaping hole in the ground -- four years after 9/11.
WTC #7 is already built - no tenants except for Silverstein. this freedom tower is going to be a white elephant down there.
pardon my post #104. who is moving in down there? China is. China is the first tenant at the WTC:

Pataki touts China biz hub for WTC site
Friday, September 23rd, 2005
Gov. Pataki said yesterday that he expects a large real estate developer in China to take hundreds of thousands of square feet of office space in lower Manhattan for a new business center.
The China Center, as he called it, "will bring together Chinese companies to invest in New York," Pataki said.
In what would be a big boost to downtown recovery, Beijing-based Vantone Real Estate Co. is said to be considering up to 700,000 square feet at the World Trade Center site.
The publication Real Estate Weekly reported last month that Vantone representatives toured developer Larry Silverstein's 7World Trade Center, a 52-story tower nearing completion.
Vantone - known for the Vantone Center, an office tower complex in Beijing - is one of China's largest private developers.
Pataki, who met with Vantone chairman Feng Lun on Monday, is on a weeklong trade mission to China.

I've never said a negative word about Pataki since you correctly pointed out to me that he was the only politician that came out and worked on this issue.
You were right.
oh no, I wasn't saying you did.
we still have to watch this - like with alot of other decisions these "agencies" make - the fix is likely in, otherwise he would not have gone public with this, and neither would Hillary.
what do you think of the #7 photo above - Silverstein tried to make the exterior look like a "mini WTC". and he is still using the open floor plan. the walls around the staircases are 2 foot thick steel reinforced fire shielded concrete. 20% wider staircases. from a construction perspective, the building is phenomenal.
Good News!
you had been on some of the earlier threads about this.
I am surprised this thread isn't getting more attention.
Well, you could always $h0^3 it up your @$$.
IMO, since the Port Authority of NY & NJ owned the 16 acres, no one had the authority to sell it without our vote. We were paying for it.
And don't forget, it was sold, without our vote, only 2 months before 9/11.
And the discovery on the events leading up to 9/11 lends lots of suspicion as to who knew what was to come.

Silverstein doesn't own the site - he owns the lease for it.
"no other viable place", in Manhattan? are they kidding?
