The "facts" in the indictment do not make a case for illegal contributions by the corporations because the indictment doesn't even allege that the corporate contributions were made within 60 days of an election. The essential argument is that a contribution was made to the RNC from a Texas PAC, which had received these corporate contributions (the dates of which we don't know), and certain candidates in Texas received money (presumably from the RNC), although not necessarily tracking with the corporate contributions to the PAC. If this sounds convoluted, it is. Based on this information, I see no illegal contribution, let alone no tie to Tom DeLay. I also note that none of the corporations that made contributions have been indicted. (And, by the way, the Texas conspiracy statute requires evidence that those charged actually intended to commit a crime. So, the bar for the government is significant.) The more I analyze this, the more outrageous this appears. I only hope the mainstream media will do a better job reporting on this than on Hurricane Katrina. Posted at 03:47 PM
Another take that contradicts yours.
I don't see Levin at the link.
There was a thread earlier today that had Delay responding to this indictment saying the the DA was doing it for political gain, which seems to be his modus operandi. He has failed in several attempts to convict republicans and no doubt will fail this time also.
That's a lot to hope for Mark......
Me too.
I hope you are right.
Incidentally, I sometimes think Leno gets his writers from those "Jaywalking" segments on his show. Any time I tune in, he seems to be repeating the same tired "Bush is stupid" jokes I'd seen the last time I'd tuned in. Yawn.
Levin on Hannity now.
good one!
Since the Republicans in DC dont seem to have the guts to turn on these as***les, maybe its time for the general public to take matters into their own hands.
Civil war appears to be nearer than some think.
TOM DeLAY helped to Lead the CHARGE in Congress in SUPPORT of Theresa Marie Schivao-Schindler...
....and even though Terri was slain in the end, I'm more than certain that ANTI-life'rs have been rolling up a Huuuuuuge Grudge against Senator DeLAY
But the charge I think is that the RNC was a mere conduit to disguise contributions that were in effect from the Texas PAC to Texas candidates, which were illegal. Either that can be proved or not (if the amounts that went to the RNC are the same as the amounts that went out, that would be very damaging), and either it can be proved that DeLay knew about it or not. Presumably, the DA will try to get the other two he indicted to rat on DeLay in exchange for leniency.
Per the Great One - If this prosecuter knows that this is a bogus charge, he should be disbarred.....
Delay indicted, I predict Rush Limbaugh will be next, followed by a host of others. As Ann Coulter has stated, the dems feel the way to control the debate is by outlawing the other side.
Rest assured, this is only the start of the dems using local, primarily democratically elected prosecutors to drum up any and every indictment or hint of a charge against Republican lawmakers. Now Frist is in trouble, hmmm, wonder where that charge was referred from?
Bottom line, the Republicans better bring the guns to the this fight and do so quickly.
Kos and Krew are trying to push the Lib's talking point of "uh, Earle indicted Dems before, therefore Delay is guilty". LMAO!!! Why let the facts get in the way, Libtards? It has never stopped you before (e.g. 2000 election, 2004 Ohio, Diebold, Downing Street, Dynamited levees, etc.).
Hey, Dan Rather did news reports on Dems before, therefore, Bush must have skipped out on the Natl Guard!!! Great logic. NOT!!!!
This will be another bogus 'scandal' that will blow up in the Dims faces and expose them as the dysfunctional morons that they are.
That would be sweet.
