Ben Affleck's Next Role: Senator?
CBS ^

Posted on 09/28/2005 10:34:26 AM PDT by Millee

For Ben Affleck, the closest role he's had to senator so far was his part as CIA agent Jack Ryan in Tom Clancy's spy thriller "The Sum of all Fears."

But the Washington Post reports some want Affleck to say goodbye to the Hollywood Hills and hello to Capital Hill as the Democratic senator from Virginia.

Post columnist Amy Argetsinger says Virginia Democrats are desperately seeking a big name to take on rising Republican star Sen. George Allen next year.

"They need someone who is smart and photogenic and has a lot of his own money to subsidize a campaign. It just so happens that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have been looking for real estate in Charlottesville," Argetsinger tells CBS affiliate WUSA.

University of Virginia professor Larry Sabato tells the Post the Affleck speculation is "spread pretty widely, at least in the political underground."

Democratic Gov. Mark Warner, who at one point had been mentioned as a potential Senate candidate but is now seen as a possible 2008 presidential contender, says he welcomes the Afflecks as new residents, but won't say much more.

"If he moves to Virginia and wants to get involved politically, he has a major name but that's not somebody I think there's an active recruitment going on with," says Warner.

Affleck has never held public office but was prominent at last year's Democratic National Convention. And he certainly wouldn't be the first actor to turn to politics. President Reagan and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger have both made that same career move.

Affleck's spokesman Ken Sunshine says there's no truth to the rumors, but says Affleck "would be a superb candidate for public office in the future. Right now, he's very busy directing his first feature movie for Disney, 'Gone, Baby, Gone.'"

We all knew that Ben Affleck and Kevin Smith were close, but a new item in today's PageSix really gets to the heart of the matter. According to PageSix, the Jersey Girl director told Maxim UK about a perverted prank that Affleck played on him called "fruit basket."

"I'd be sitting in the director's chair and I'd be watching a playback, and he'd stand behind me. Every once in a while I'd feel something on my neck. I'd be like, 'What the [bleep] was that?'" explains Smith. "And I'd turn around and he'd have his [scrotum] out and resting on my neck. I was like, 'What the [bleep] is wrong with you, dude?' What if it got out in the press that that's the kind of thing you do?' He's like, 'No one would ever [bleeping] believe you, sir.' "

Hmm. Ben, we believe him, but will you ever work with him again?

Was Affleck from Boston and now California, why is he thinking about going to VA. "who is smart and photogenic"
Well 1 out of 2 ain't bad.

Also, If my memory serves me, didn't Affleck do a bunch of stuff for Al Gore in 2000 and urged people to get out and vote then the records showed he didn't vote at all.

Never underestimate the ability of the electorate to be stupid. You never know if we keep getting hit with bad news it is possible that anyone with a D next to his or her name will win by default
still it is Affleck so i am not too worried

He is a compulsive gambler & that's supposedly one of the reasons he split up with that other Jennifer. She also hated his generous tips! He isn't good with finances, hopefully that fact will be mentioned if he actually runs. He has less than one year of college too. But...Sonny Bono won and he had no education, so who knows.

Gee,it would be a darn shame if Ben's credit report was to find it's way to Bill O'Reilly.

He isn't good with finances,

Since when has that stopped any politician, on either side of the aisle?

Well, he got his girlfriend pregnant (before marrying her), so he's certainly qualified to be a Democrat Senator.

I think Ben is qualified...for playing around with film and loose women.

Qualified to teach children how to be an immoral Bible-rejecting snob by his words and deeds.

Qualified to reject the most precious principles of our American civilization.

Qualified to lie and teach others to lie about almost every topic he has a passing knowledge about.

He is qualified to be in government, as long as his constituency are selfish pagans who care nothing for truth and our time-tested way of life..

I guess all actors are now qualified politicans. moving on up. Can you imagine 2008, Hillary first she-man President, Bill Clinton first lady, and all the newly elected cabinet members: Soros,Moore,Sheehan,Affleck, return of Halfbright,Reno,Elders, JJ, Sharpton. Maybe Blanco for new Fema Director, etc, etc.
