Hours before New Orleans Police Superintendent Eddie Compass announced his resignation, Tony relayed some hot information he had heard from his Capitol Hill sources. It regarded an FBI investigation currently under way.

You can go to the source above and listen to that segment of his radio show.

Yeah, well, my bet is that he's probably compensated pretty well for not investigating that sort of thing too closely.

"It's pretty much always been known, but never openly acknowledged, that NOPD's actual numbers were far below the "official" figure of 1500 - 1700," said the source.

Then why in HADES didn't anyone DO something about it?!

"... you can't make an SSN vanish."

So you think they paid payroll taxes and income taxes on these bogus employees? I suppose you think they found some way to pay property taxes & sales taxes and file tax returns as well. LOL

I doubt it.

Elodia Blanco mentioned, in an article written right before Katrina hit

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005 Environmental Racism: How Minority Communities Are Exposed to "Toxic Soup"

Now, one of the things I want to add to this discussion, Amy, is that within New Orleans itself, there are a number of superfund toxic sites in neighborhoods. The Agricultural Street Landfill superfund site has been one of the most controversial sites in the city of New Orleans. We have been working with Elodia Blanco and her group, Concerned Citizens of Agriculture Street.

I spoke to Ms. Blanco as she was hurriedly trying to get her invalid father and her daughter out of the house on Sunday in preparation for the hit by the storm. It's impossible to reach any of them now because the phone services are down.

But I'm just imagining the water, if the water is flooding her neighborhood, and I'm imagining that it is, all of those toxic chemicals below their homes have come up. And the water that we see in the footage coming through the television footage contains all of these toxic chemicals. So we're not just talking about fireflies and ants that we're hearing in the major media. We're talking about serious chemicals that are a threat to human health. And now all of this is in the water and being washed into people's homes and is contaminating the water.

I'd like to know who was in charge of building Elodia Blanco's new home on a toxic landfill in 1980 and how did the City of New Orleans permit houses to be built there?

IIRC, the Clinton funding of 100,000 new cops on the street had a built-in sunset where the federal funding was heavy on the front end and then it backed off over a period of, I don't know, three or four years, leaving the state or city to make up the difference.

So NO might have legitimately hired cops but when the funding ran out, they probably just kept them on "in name only" and used what funds were available for other things.

After I heard that creep Nagin answering Browns charges this morning, I sure hope they can link him to the corruption.

According to Dead Pelican, they padded numbers to allow officers to not have to live in New orleans. (i.e. showed a high enough percentage that did)

The 250 billion that lambroad wanted works out to about $1,000.00 apiece from my son and I. We discussed it and decided NO to NO.

The DeadPelican paints a slightly less corrupt picture. It's suggesting the numbers were cooked to qualify for federal assisstance, but perhaps the 500 ghost officers were not receiving paychecks.

I think we can see, however, why the dems are sitting out the hearings.

Old Habits? "These six volumes together form a roster of the employees of the New Orleans Police Department from its beginnings in 1882 through the year 1946. It appears that NOPD officials from time to time ordered that information about active employees from the cu rrent book be copied into a new book. There is, therefore, considerable overlap in names and information from one volume to the next."

Did any one watch that prosecuter from NO talking to Greta yesterday about witnesses who can't be found?

He was either an idiot, or something?
