ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- Ashley Smith, the woman who says she persuaded suspected courthouse gunman Brian Nichols to release her by talking about her faith in God, discloses in a new book that she gave him methamphetamine during the hostage ordeal.

Arrest her.
She just admitted to a crime.
That's amazing.
She kept them right next to her "Purpose Driven Life"
There are no heros anymore.
Or in the book. What cop would look for drugs in that book?
I would have given it to him too. Besides it worked. She's alive.
I just read the article. She didn't have to post this. Her book seems to be more inspirational than hero stuff.
She didnt have to post it? Shes trying to sell books
I got no problem with her doin what she had to get out but its funny miss god had em and was going on bout how she talked god with him and its funny how she didnt mention it till she got the reward and had a book to sell..i just thinking what else she did...a lil nookie?...well i guess any thing to survive as you said
That did sound funny didn't it? :') She did not have to tell all in her book about her drug use. From the article posted she seems to be trying to give a testomony of her faith.
Somehow I think she's going to need every penny.
Think of the logic of the killer - he is at her apartment - all he has to do is turn on TV to see that the Atlanta and Fulton County law enforcement are still looking at the parking garage across from the courthouse - they haven't even discovered the dead ICE agent in Buckhead at this point. If he really wante3d to escape - he could have driven the ICE agent's vehicle to NC before his body was discovered. For some reason he stays - and then they drive, in separate vehicles, to move the ICE agent's Grand Cherokee. She had ample opportunity to ditch him at that point - if her paramount goal was to survive and see her daughter again.
As far as meth addicts go - they are transferring the costs of their terrible behavior onto those in their families and to society in general. It takes a long time to shake meth addiction - programs of 6-9 months are not unheard of and they have a far lower long term success rate than alcohol treatment programs. Utterly irresponsible behavior.
He was a coward and just wanted a way to avoid being killed and she gave it to him. End of story.
I can't fault her for what she did. How many of us would not do the same?
Let's see. What could be worse than being held hostage by a escaped prisoner. I know an escaped prisoner strung out on METH. I am starting to think this gal is not wrapped too tight. It's not as though he rummaged through her purse and found the drugs and took them She gave the meth to him. She increased the danger to herself with that very unwise move.
Note to self. A tweaker with nothing to do and lots of time and a knife is not a good combination.
Now, I could see it if she gave him pot but METH??? (And that could be a stretch, too, if it brought out paranoia.) That is insane!
The Bible is filled with stories of people who messed up worse than this woman did, their faith saved them and her's appeared to have saved her... and him spiritually.
I'd like to see this story as a movie.
Give the lady a break. She's had a rough life, mainly caused by the crummy choices she has made. If she's honest with God and herself, than good on her. I hope things work out for her. The world is already littered with lost souls, if hers is saved, cool.
