"Muslim Opinion" Be Damned
The Ayn Rand Institute ^ | Tuesday, September 6, 2005 | Alex Epstein

To listen to most of our foreign-policy commentators, the biggest problem facing America today--four years after Sept. 11th--is the fact that many Muslims are mad at us.

"Whatever one's views on the [Iraq] war," writes a New York Times columnist, "thoughtful Americans need to consider . . . the bitter anger that it has provoked among Muslims around the world." In response to Abu Ghraib, Ted Kennedy lamented, "We have become the most hated nation in the world, as a result of this disastrous policy in the prisons." Muslim anger over America's support of Israel, we are told, is a major cause of anti-American terrorism.

We face, these commentators say, a crisis of "Muslim opinion." We must, they say, win the "hearts and minds" of angry Muslims by heaping public affection on Islam, by shutting down Guantanamo, by being more "evenhanded" between free Israel and the terrorist Palestinian Authority--and certainly by avoiding any new military action in the Muslim world. If we fail to win over "Muslim opinion," we are told, we will drive even more to become terrorists.

All of this evades one blatant truth: the hatred being heaped on America is irrational and undeserved. Consider the issue of treatment of POWs. Many Muslims are up in arms about the treatment of prisoners of war in Iraq and at Guantanamo--many of whom were captured on battlefields trying to kill Americans. Yet these same Muslims are silent about the summary convictions and torture--real torture, with electric drills and vats of acid--that are official policy and daily practice throughout the Middle East...

The proper response to Islamists and their supporters is to identify them as our ideological and political enemies--and dispense justice accordingly. In the case of our militant enemies, we must kill or demoralize them--especially those regimes that support terrorism and fuel the Islamist movement...

Sress the must kill. Support the KISS principle.

Islam, particularly in Arabic cultures, stunts the emotional development of the populace it enthralls, leaving them perpetual 4-year-olds.

"fact that many Muslims are mad at us"

Who gives a flying f*rt! All the 911 killers were muslims and islamics. The world should be angry at those islamic govts that are producing the terrorists. So much for those practicing the religion of war.

Split between Randian Objectivists and Big "L" Libertarians. The latter group seems to have more in common with Cindy Sheehan these days.

I've heard a lot about the seething rage of the Arab streets. Well, I think the Arabs had better watch out for the seething rage of the American streets.

They're mad, mad, mad. Who's fault is that?

They are even mad at the Spaniards for the re-conquest of Andalusia over 500 years ago. There's no pleasing them, ever.

The best the world can hope for in the long term is a quarantine of the whole Muslim world until it learns to be civilized. The reality will probably be a lot worse, at least for them.

Absolutely true. Now, Lynndie England ought to get a small medal for her part in the enemy demoralization effort. The judicial proceedings are to be quashed, of course.

Hospital Halts Organ Program # St. Vincent center in L.A. says a patient, 52nd on liver transplant list, got improper priority and the action was covered up.

Suadi Liver Story Excerpted...more here

By Charles Ornstein, Times Staff Writer

St. Vincent Medical Center, one of the largest organ transplantation centers in the state, has suspended its liver program after discovering that its doctors improperly arranged for a transplant to a Saudi national using an organ that should have gone to a much higher priority patient at another hospital, officials said.

Hospital staff members then falsified documents several times to cover up the alleged maneuver, pretending that the transplant was for a patient who was near the top of the regional waiting list, hospital President and Chief Executive Gus Valdespino confirmed Monday.

ADVERTISEMENT The transplant took place in September 2003 and was paid for by the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia. But Valdespino said the problem was discovered only this month when officials were responding to routine questions from auditors at the United Network for Organ Sharing, the nonprofit group that administers the national transplant system.

The patient who received the successful transplant was actually 52nd on the list, which covers much of Southern California and takes into account such factors as who is sickest and who has been waiting longest.

A patient at UCLA Medical Center was entitled to receive the organ and St. Vincent should have declined it, Valdespino said.

Transplant directors and ethicists from across the country say what is alleged to have happened at St. Vincent is a sin in organ transplantation, which is heavily regulated by a procurement network, as well as state and federal officials, to maintain integrity and fairness in the process.

The idea of moving one patient above another for other than medical reasons is "totally unconscionable," said Dr. Douglas Hanto, chief of the transplant division at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. "It's wrong unequivocally."

The hospital, west of downtown Los Angeles, notified the state Department of Health Services about the line-jumping problem Monday, and agency spokeswoman Lea Brooks said inspectors would immediately investigate.

Excellent Question and the one the Press and the UN would be asking if they were in the least analytical and honest.

"Much like the Crusades, The Crusades worked."

Actually, the Crusades were a terrible defeat for the west. The first Crusade was successful, but the following Crusades were failures. The Arabs recaptured lands, and expanded.

If not for the Enlightenment, the western world would be islamic.

Well, permit me to disagree. As I've said, I'd be giving out medals.
