four days after a head shot from a .357 pistol?
I would have thought death would be instantaneous, to hours.

It is actually a great question. I thought the same thing.
My only thought is that he must of had hard cheap target loads in the gun and it made a nice clean hole all the way through. Most of ust that carry .357 use lead hollow point defense rounds. They make a mess of things but don't over pennetrate as much and expand on contact.

If there was not a lot of bleeding and it was a glancing blow and didn't damage the back part of the brain it can be possible. Add life support into the equasion. Humans and animals are not as fragile as some think. I have seen deer leave a mile blood trail only to stop bleeding and disappear.Then again a small .22 can mean instant death if placed in the right spot.
