"Just to mention... as far as the "rebuilding effort" goes... the people down on the Gulf Coast have endured two ravaging storms and are about to endure a massive wave of illegal alien immigration funded by our tax dollars."

Katrina's Aftermath Raises Immigration Issues

Hispanics and Hurricane Katrina
What happened to the nearly 200,000 Hispanics living in and around New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit last month? I asked the question of one reporter who had called me to comment on the role race played in the evacuation fiasco, but she didn't know. In fact, at the height of the crisis, few in the media seemed the slightest bit curious about this population, despite hundreds of stories about poverty, race, and the failure of government to rescue the most vulnerable.

Good suggestions. However, the problem underlying all of this is our government is working against us. Token enforcement, catch and release policies, misdirection through immigration "reform" efforts rather than enforcing the existing laws, etc. This all like trying to nail jello to the wall. Until we get a government and courts that want to protect America, all other efforts are eyewash. The current Administration will never enforce immigration laws and the dems are no better. We need an entirely new and motivated leadership, but how to get there in the present system is a mystery.

I agree the government has to implement a new tougher policy and enforce it. I unfortunately do not see anything happening any time soon.
I fear it will not get fixed until a terrorist attack occurs and they find out that the terrorists snuck across the border from Mexico.

And the sad thing is, if a Democrat ran for President on a tough pro-legal, severely ANTI-ILLEGAL, immigration platform, many of us would be damn tempted to vote for him/her.
Bush is so wrong on this issue it is not funny.

The pace of illegal immigration to the United States has increased despite tighter security measures and it generally parallels the pace of economic growth and the availability of jobs, a report said Tuesday.
What increased security measures?
Wait a minute, we HAVE border security measures?

Bush would be finished if that happened. I would expect calls for impeachment.
Any principled conservative ought to be leading the charge too. Lets not stop with the President, there are a heck of a lot of Open Borders, profits over security RINO's in congress.

Even if there were calls for an impeachment, it wouldn't happen - think about who controls Congress, and think about how much money from businesses who benefit from illegals ends up benefitting members of Congress.
This is one area where both parties are on the same side (even if it's for different reasons), and it's the wrong side.

Doesn't the Pew Hispanic Center have an agenda? They are trying to make it look like there is really no problem.
These numbers are off by a factor between 10 and 20.

But, but, but .... we are at WAR! This is not possible. No nation at "WAR!" would allow it's borders to be compromised so easily.
