Not first responders or last for that matter. Some intern at FEMA should have been watching tv to see the people dyin' at the Convention Center and at the hospitals. Too much bureaucracy and lack of coordination at every level imo. Nagin and Blanco failed on an astronomical level pre-Katrina and FEMA simply wasn't prepared for that eventuality.
"Nagin and Blanco failed on an astronomical level pre-Katrina and FEMA simply wasn't prepared for that eventuality."
Very good point. Should FEMA have been prepared for an idiot governor? She is a disaster. Yet, should FEMA prepare for a breakdown at that level for every state, then perhaps it should be federalized...and there are a great many other governors who don't want their authority usurped. I take it back, Blanco isn't a disaster, she's a catastrophe.
Are you serious?! If some intern was watching TV, then THAT would have been criticized - you can't win with these people.
No one was shown dying at the Convention center. It seems that the reports we heard on TV were second hand, or rumors. In other words, there was nothing to SEE. What should have happened, however, wa that someone should have noticed that the TV reporters were hysterical and needed to be responded to immediately. Brown did not, because no one was passing that fact up to him.
