Of course the forecast changed later on. But Brown had no way of knowing that AT NOON ON FRIDAY. When the senators berate him for not forcing an evacuation on New Orleans on Thursday or even ON FRIDAY AT NOON, they are acting as if Brown was supposed to be psychic.

I agree with you there. I wouldn't blame Brown for not EVER issuing a forced evacuation. Just not something a FEMA chief should have to do.

Oh, yeah, I hear that. When I worked for the union, it was all "boycott Wal-Mart, but everyone sneaked over there.

Shays' contrasting Brown with Giuliani is misdirected - if anyone's performance is to be compared to Rudy's, it's Mayor Nagin.... Brown ain't the mayor.

"That would be Congressman William Jefferson, Democrat-Louisiana. I think he's talking about some Pubbie guy...Taylor, or something..."

It was Congressman William Jefferson who they had asking questions during this hearing. I think he is the one who used the NG to take him to his house and get stuff out of it.

Hopefully we'll soon get a phantom NOLA police source, and it's own thread.

Rep. Kay Granger (R) Texas: The mayor and governor weren't doing what they were supposed to do and you knew that there should have been a unified command established. So what did you do to alter the plan.

The evac plan worked in Tx and other places. So when you saw it wasn't working, what did you do differently. If people aren't listening, you've lost time and more people will be left in that city which means more supplies.

Brown: At that point we started pushing more supplied in. Fast forward to about Monday/Tuesday - I knew we were going to have to assign DOD to do our distribution. Rumsfeld agreed to a blanket mission assignment to NO because we knew we couldn't do it in the structure that existed.

We federalized the operation without federalizing it.

That started to occur on Wednesday.

Did you notice that Shays kind of acted like 9-11 wasn't a national disaster?

Even after one of our moderate 65 mph Northwest windstorms, it sometimes takes a week to ten days before all power is restored. Yet, after an incredibly violent and widespread storm like Katrina, everyone expected instant rescue of everyone and instant restoration of all utilities.

I just called Shays Office..

203-579-5870
203-866-6459
203-357-8277

I told them he is pandering to the left and he does not stand up for his own party. He leans to the dims and he would never have been elected in my community.

Gen. Honore seems like a character out of Hemingway. He's got a heroic no-nonsense quality that reminds me of the late Red Adare of the Kuwait oilfield firefighting fame.

But then Granger changed her line of questioning; she confused me with that first question though.

I think the FBI is suspicious of what he brought out in that trunk....hopefully, he will himself be investigated. Certainly he did misuse our troops and a helicopter to do his personal business....made the troops wait outside his house for 1 hour...and their vehicle was stuck in mud so that till another vehicle had to come and carry him + his computer and a trunkfull of his stuff.

Ask the people in eastern North Carolina how long it took during Hurricane Floyd.

And Bill Clinton wasn't here for days and days and days.

It's the mentality of "instant gratification" that has become our society. Totally unrealistic. I think the media is responsible for that mindset
