But Peach.........for the officials who KNEW THIS, to say these non-existent policemen FLED the scene is so creepy and denigrating to police everywhere, it is difficult to swallow.

What in the hell has been going on in that city? Certainly they hurt their most powerless and needy citizens. The ones they harbor and keep down and dependent and undereducated and angry for their votes at election time.

They too often GET the apology, instead of an argument that tells the advantages of the conservative POV!

Louisiana Goes After Federal Billions

Louisiana's congressional delegation has requested $40 billion for Army Corps of Engineers projects in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, about 10 times the annual Corps budget for the entire nation, or 16 times the amount the Corps has said it would need to protect New Orleans from a Category 5 hurricane.

Louisiana Sens. David Vitter (R) and Mary Landrieu (D) tucked the request into their $250 billion Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief and Economic Recovery Act, the state's opening salvo in the scramble for federal dollars.

What I can tell you is that several days after the hurricane hit, people living in Mobile, Alabama, Bay Minette, AL., were listening to a local radio station out of MS., hearing about how people in apartment complexes, neighborhoods, etc., had been without food and water for days, got trucks together and supplies and managed to get into Biloxi, Gulfport, and deliver these things to them. Now if the NG was or whoever else was supposedly all ready "on the ground", why in the hell was people from another state having to come in and bring water? And I have another question for you, if they were able to get into these areas, why couldn't FEMA ?

When FEMa did arrive, they would not set up distribution points because they wouldn't allow their people to set up without NG troops there to protect them. State Troopers from FL., Al, and other states volunteered to do it so they could hurry up and pass out the water, and FEMA wouldn't do it because they weren't "National Guard"

And by the way, these truckloads of MRE's that Brown was talking about, there were several hundred tractor trailer loads sitting at Stennis Space Center in south MS. last week. They had been there for over a week. When the truck drivers that had been contracted by FEMA to deliver the supplies to the area arrived, they were surprised to find out that there were no FEMA workers there. When they contacted FEMA to find out where to deliver the supplies, they were told to wait there and FEMA would let them know. A WEEK later they were still there waiting. Being paid $50 an hour 24 hours a day. The local authorities began trying to contact fema about the same thing. they also got no response. Finally, the truck drivers decided to "set up their own damn distribution".

This wouldn't surprise me. I have to admit, I dont watch much Fox news anymore (its mostly Tabloid crap now anyways), but if you recall, CNN started out pretty conservative. Once viewership goes up, they get more liberal. Its part of the new/media/entertainment culture, which they cannot separate. It is liberal, it leads to liberalism. It will always be thus.

There was a very profound statement that Brown made earlier when he talked about how there was a problem going from FEMA being a separate Agency to a part of Homeland Security. It involved a big shift effecting some 3000 employees. My experience with working for the Feds and Local Government is that the turmoil continues long after the changes are made,even with good professional employees.

It's been somehow in my DNA since I was little to know that Louisiana was probably the most corrupt state in the land. My grandparents knew this and I heard it discussed when I was little.

But even given that, hearing that crime is high in New Orleans and officials did NOTHING to prevent the fraud perpetrated on the poor in that city is still hard to swallow.
