Hearings beginning now on C-Span- Michael Brown will be grilled.
Have at it, folks:)
I wasn't able to listen to Snow this morning, but I have to wonder if at least some of this could be more of a paperwork snafu than a large number of phantom officers.
I'm not saying it's not possible, but I think it would be wise to wait for more info before coming to any conclusions.
When I was a kid we lost our house and everything we owned in a house fire that was caused by a snapped power line during a storm.
Gibson can take his nonsequitur reply and shove it...
I replied back to him, pretty much saying that if I was threatened by a hurricane, I could use my brain, two legs, two arms, eyes and ears to at least try to do what I could to help myself in that situation. I don't blame the disabled for not getting out because they had to depend on someone to help them, but there were thousands and thousands of folks that could have stored more food, more water and taken a bit more of an incentive to flee the area instead of waiting for the beaurocrats to come in and rescue them because of the lack of planning and responsibility shown by individual citizens.
Sounds like Mark Furhman was on to something telling Geraldo about that.
I heard Rush talking about that today and it makes one reflect that perhaps the MSM -- FOX included in this case -- need their feet held to the fire. If they had not reported people were being murdered at the dome and convention center, etc., perhaps Red Cross/Salvation Army/FEMA would have been allowed in to help the people stranded on the overpass and other places.
I have heard and seen so many families, even from Hurricane Rita, that are shown on TV whining and crying about the "government" (read Bush) hasn't come to give them water, food, gas, etc...
My question---why the heck didn't they evacuate...and if they did...why did they go back, and start complaining??
TV keeps showing these families with 4-5 kids and putting the kids on TV saying they are hungry and thirsty, and no one cares about them and their plight.
I am having a harder and harder time being sympathetic..considering what they all knew had happened during Katrina...and that the authorities REALLY worked hard to get everyone that would evacuate, out of their towns.
I'm just working my way through this thread but couldn't pass this comment. Shays is a twisted man. I heard him on C-Span earlier this morning saying that he admired Bush for being able to stand shoulder to shoulder with Nagin and Blanco after the things that were said. Now he says that he's more concerned with loyalty? Like I said, he's twisted...he doesn't understand decency.
BTW---You have 2 terrific congresscritters from what I have heard...Trent Franks and Jeff Flake...
I also heard John McCain met with Cindy Shehadi today...she came out of the meeting saying he is a war-monger??? LOL
Pleaseeeeee dont' watch. I don't want to encourage it to stay on the air through Christmas.
He's not twisted
He is a grandstanding hypocrite
That line of questioning and attack by Shays was WAY over the line
A very thoughtful post.
We have no idea how technology is going to affect the future of our country. It seems that each new communication technology brings vast changes that cannot be altered. Sometimes when I allow myself to consider possibilities, I get very depressed. So I can't think about the "what ifs" anymore.
I will always thank Jim Robinson and his brother and others for seeing the possibility in using the internet for this great site!
Chris Shay's line of questioning was really, really ridiculous. He kept demanding that Brown coordinate and the fact that local entities weren't cooperating didn't seem to matter - he should have "coordinated." Uh, Chris - you can't coordinate if the people you are supposed to coordinate with aren't cooperating!
Some have this idea that they are entitled to things. I've always felt that one should do everything they can to help themselves, and then what they can't do other agencies can take up the slack. I understand the need for our gov't to play some role in solving the problems caused by natural disasters, but when people didn't even take the time to stock up on enough food and water for a few days is inexcusable. I mean, supplies don't just fall from the sky ten minutes after a disaster hits, yet I feel that many were expecting just that.
I noticed your tagline. I like Mike Pence as well. One of only a handful of Republicans who still has the conscience to try to do the right thing.
How have they lied about his full resume? Do you have any additional info handy? I wasn't able to watch the full hearing.
Sort of like the firemen who were stopped for three days in Atlanta for Sexual Harassment training and then told they would be used to hand out flyer's so they turned around and went back home.
I would be very happy -- at this point -- to have an honest, all around, valuation of what really went on, but I think what it really proves is our government is too big, too cumbersome and putting FEMA into HLS only made it worse.
According to a dim rep on the committee, the insurance people have a card table in front of where their offices were. I guess you have to go to them. He said people had not seen FEMA, but HAD seen the insurance people.
If she is, I might have to punch her in her big fat nose, literally speaking of course!!!!!
Me too... this storm was the final straw.
