Is there any way to check whether the names of those non-existent police officers are on the voting rolls?

I got that from the FEMA website. It was Buyer who was questioning whether the governor had included Orleans parish and other NO parishes in her request to the USG. I will check to see what was in her original request. Brown couldn't verify one way or the other. However, the official FEMA declaration does include them.

So basically, it is dawning on those that watch that the role of FEMA is designed by Congress and that much of the hand wringing about what did, or didn't happen when local government failed to execute their fundemental plans and respond to the emergency is the fault of Congress through the legislation they have set up.

There is already an AP article about Brown blaming the dysfunctional Louisiana government for problems with the federal response to FEMA.

I can believe it - it's also sort of ironic to compliment Rudy G by holding him up as a great disaster-handler, and then imply it wasn't a disaster. Shays seems too dumb for Congress even.

I am curious as to who the largest slumlords are in NO, could it be the Landrieu family? Can you imagine their loss of income right now?

I'm drawing a blank and can't remember

Hey hoosiermama ... Do you remember the story behind HUD in Louisiana???

Isn't Mary Landrieu's father involved with it somehow???

Or was he Cater's HUD Sec. ???

What is funny is on Chrissy Matthews show last night, he was patting himself on the back --- saying that the MEDIA did the best job of anyone...

And yet, all over this site, there are articles about how the MEDIA distorted what actually did happen...

LOL

And, I am so glad that Brown pointed out that what was told, was not necessarily so.

And this leads to my second point, which no one seems to mention: In my opinion, officials probably figured the people in the Superdome and on the freeway ramp were ALREADY RESCUED, i.e., they had shelter and/or some food and water, so they were a second-line priority.

#####

I have been trying to explain this to people ever since the media went bonkers over the people that were seen on TV. They were dry. There was food. [See: articles on trash removal after the people were evacuated] There was water: some used it to pour over their heads to cool off! - as reported in a firsthand evacuee's story in the Baltimore Sun.

"The new ABC show Commander-in-Chief which features a female president, is written by a Hillary insider."

All TV dramas need bad guys, so who will the bad guys be in this show? I think the smart money is that they will be . . . you guessed it - conservatives. After all, we all know that conservatives fear smart, capable women, and prefer ignorant, uneducated women who know their place. [sarcasm]

Ahh. I misread. I thought you were saying that N.O. did not get ample warning. If they acted on the 5 PM, they would have had all the time they needed to perform their evacuation plan that they seem to have had no intention of ever implementing.

I think the notion of just GIVING people house vouchers to BUY LAND just terrifies the government control types.

Well .. I hate to see it happening .. because some of the FOX programming is good.

But .. I've seen them add more and more former CNN and CBS people - which tells me they are more concerned with how ABC/NBC/CBS talks about FOX. They are afraid to be different - and that's sad .. because that's how they got their audience. I guess they don't need us anymore.

I hope Brent Bozell is correct and there is a CONSERVATIVE network about to come on the scene. I think FOX will be in real trouble if that's true.

That must have been the "real" problem down there

Given that Nagin campaigned for Bobby Jindal against Blanco, that's not surprising.
