The live, on-the-ground reports coming from the ground during Katrina were that the city had been mostly spared.

I've been sitting here watching Brown with my mouth hanging open. Screw the media people who are commenting now. Brown is right. They want contrition? Why? Will the media be contrite? Will Nagin be contrite? Will Blanco be contrite? When they say Bush apologized, they forget how that apology was worded. "I am responsible to the extent that FEMA might have done a better job." (Or words to that effect). I give Brown credit for having the balls to stand up for himself and his agency and for putting the blame where it belongs.

the Dems. are protesting this for some reason.
Because they are afraid of the truth
^^^^^^
Amazing, isn't it. They are cowards. They cannot spin the incompetence of Gov Blanco, in direct comparison to the Govs in her adjoining states, so they act like ostriches.
Uh-oh, William Jefferson Democrat Louisiana is now attempting to defend LA officials. What chutzpah!

Jefferson? The guy who pulled TWO NG trucks and a rescue chopper from the rescue effort just so he could get to his posh, NON-FLOODED house and take some incriminating evidence out (IMO, anyhow; he's under investigation for misuse of campaign funds)

Jefferson now falling back onto FEMA's worst case scenario of a major hurricane hitting South La. "the response capability of state and local would be overwhelmed".
Claiming that there was sufficent warning in published articles that should have led FEMA to coordinate with State/Local well before Katrina.

Brown said Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin "sparred during the crisis and could not work together cooperatively." He also described Blanco as "indecisive" and refusing to cede control of the Louisiana National Guard to federal authorities because "it would have undercut her image politically." Because that is the truth about what happened at New Orleans.
