Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 7:39 p.m. EDT Bill Maher: Laura Bush Like 'Hitler's Dog'
HBO "Real Time" host Bill Maher compared First Lady Laura Bush to "Hitler's dog" during his Friday night cablecast, after flashing a parody photo of Mrs. Bush with a black eye, as if she'd been a victim of domestic abuse.
After the photo display, Maher was challenged by guest panelist Christopher Hitchens, who told him: "It must be to [George Bush's] credit he got Laura Bush to marry him. She's an absolutely extraordinary woman."
To that, Maher replied: "Oh, come on. That's like Hitler's dog loved him. That is the silliest reason. ..."
"I think tomorrow you might be sorry you said that. Laura Bush is very gentle and talented," Hitchens warned.
With that Maher retreated a bit, insisting: "That's not what I'm saying, of course she is. But the idea that we somehow humanize any person because somebody else loves them is
ridiculous."
The outrageous exchange, reported exclusively by NewsMax contributor Steve Malzberg in his latest column, "Laura Bush and Hitler's Dog" - wasn't the worst to come from Maher's show lately.
The week before, "Real Time" guest George Carlin announced that he had a pet name for former first lady Barbara Bush.
"The Silver D - - - - e bag, I call her," Carlin announced as Maher's audience erupted in laughter.

No, please note that I'm not commenting on Maher. His comments in general re Bush and Laura, etc are inane and exactly the reason I avoid that type of show. I can honestly say I've never watched him once and have no intention to....He sounds like one of those TV hosts who gave the Idiot box it's name.
My comment was simply that that statement of a principle was correct. Our attitude for others should be conditioned on how we feel about them, how we judge them, how we assess their character/actions, etc. A fair assessment can not be based on how their wife or another loved one feels about them. Olympias loved Alexander, Hitler's mother loved him, Chelsea Clinton loves her dad, Bill Clinton loves - well, he'll love anything that'll hold still for long enough!
Same for hate. Plenty of Democrats have claimed they hate Osama but do Republicans hate Osama because Democrats do? No, you have your own reasons to do so.
Double-barreled surprise! Carlin had a wife? He outlived her?
But we are the ones who are "hate mongers" & "Clinton haters" according to these lunatics. They are so over! I will never spend a damn dime on any of them, EVER! Let them keep talking their way into poverty for all I care.

OMG. Laura Bush is the most extraordinary woman I've ever met; the light shines right out of her eyes. That the left would attack her says more about them than almost anything they could say or do.
We humanize other people like Laura Bush because, well, they're human. What kind of person has a problem with people treating others (even political enemies) as human beings deserving of respect and dignity? What kind of person would need to "humanize" Laura Bush to begin with? One doesn't need to humanize someone or something unless that person has already been dehumanized. Frankly, Bill Maher sounds like a textbook case sociopath.
I wonder if Maher's mother had any children that were not born brain dead?

Consider the fact that Maher cannot get anyone to love him enough to Marry him. He has no wife, and his relationships have all been in the crapper. He is an semi expert on being a drunk, and drug user. Maybe he can get JOJO Camel(cindy sheehan) to hook up with him, they are both butt ugly, extreme lefties, and crave attention.

I agree in principle with your view, however a point should be made that the only thing that John Birch had to do with the society is that his name was (mis)used and applied to an anti-communist organization after his death. He was a Christian missionary before the war, and a spy for Chenault (against the Japanese) during the war. While true that the Chi-Coms murdered him, he wasn't an ardent anti-communist and I believe that he would have gone back to being a missionary to the Chinese after the war. Regards.

Not so.....operative word being "returned" love. If you are a venomous person, can you love someone and have that love returned by a good person? Maybe...but comparing true love of a person to a dog's love for it's master is kind of silly.
