I saw that meeting on TV.

It was about relief and rescue efforts, not about law enforcement.

Well isn't that a fine idea!

Just when I thought we couldn't more resemble a Banana Republic, el Presidente once again rises to the occasion to prove me wrong.

Surely King George should get some new clothes to signify the new authority he'll have as Commander in Chief of a standing army policing civilians!

Maybe he should try these, they are traditional for the role!

Coming soon, Great Big George statues in public. Hooray for our Glorious Leader!!!

Get rid of local police and build State Police. Eliminate the layers. If the feds are going to be involved then local police is just another money level. Aren't the State Police called on for crime solving abilities because they have the resources? I can live without saying hi to my local officer whose dispatched from another city.

JENNIFER LOVEN, AP

Note of warning. She is married to a DNC member and Democrat Party Activist. Despite repeated reports to AP about her clear conflict of intrest, AP still is using her as their primary political reporter. Take anything she "reports" with very large grains of salt.

Imagine Bill or Hillary with the ability to use the military domestically. We're already on the slippery slope, I think it would be more prudent to throw sand in front of us than grease.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Best Regards

Sergio

What a stuck on stupid idea...

We don't need the military so readily available & able walk into civilian issues. Although, I'm sure a President Hillary would think the idea wonderful.

We need less bureacracy so that local governements can run as smoothly as the military.

Did you change the headline? That's a 'no-no.' Wanna ask the mod to change it? Thanks.

Just think of the big smile upon the face of she-who-must-not-be-named when all of this power is concentrated in the Cherry-Blossom Throne - the one she plans to occupy in a mere three years.

"The president said he wants to examine whether the Defense Department should take the lead in a natural disaster "of a certain size" as it would after any terrorist attack. "That's going to be a very important consideration for Congress to think about," he said."

The military may have control over a given area within the borders of the United States when no rightful civilian authority is capable of functioning within that specific area. So long as local, state, or Federal authorities are capable of carrying out orders in that area, any military personnel and action must be directly controlled by civilian authorities. The last thing we need is Army tanks rolling through the streets of Chicago next time there's a minor flood.

NO!
Before we consider such an outrageous idea why don't we pass a constitutional ammendment requiring standard DOD basic security background checks on all levels of elected and appointed officials prior to them holding office?

There are some links about this latest effort in DC, media pushing greater military control for "safety" reasons. One of them is to this FR post: "Northern Command General Endorses Posse Comitatus Review". That last is from 2002.
