With the announcement only a day or two away What leads you to that conclusion?
I have been away from news for a few days.

Hi, Izzy --
There are a couple of posts on RedState/ConfirmThem this morning indicating that the President's announcement will be this week and perhaps even before Roberts' confirmation.
"RedStates sources tell us to expect a Presidential announcement any day concerning Sandra Day OConnors replacement. With a vote coming very soon on Roberts, many Republican senators and White House staffers expect the President to make his announcement soon."

Rove cannot be this stupid. As a matter of fact, I thought he was a pretty smart boy.
Problems with the AG.
1. Conflict of interest issues - recusal.
2. Tough hearing in January which leads to.
3. Appointment causes AG vacancy inviting yet another tough confirmation battle.
4. Gonzalez is probably not an authentic conservative. Probably would draw GOP votes against confirmation.
I think this is disinformation. Redstate and Confirmthem are interesting reads but I think the WH is deliberately using them to plant this disinfo. I think W knows exactly who he is going to nominate and if it were me, I would use Roberts' swearing in to nominate the next Justice.

The full Senate vote on Roberts will be on Thursday. It is unlikely that W will name someone before the Roberts confirmation is sealed. I suspect that he will name someone after that but not at the swearing in ceremony, when the spotlight is on Roberts as it well should be.
