Governor says national Dems are too liberal
Associated Press
GILLETTE - State Democrats should distance themselves from liberal national party leaders whose agenda frequently differs from Wyoming, Democratic Gov. Dave Freudenthal told state party members at a meeting attended by a Democratic National Committee vice chairman.
Wyoming Democrats should instead focus on local issues that relate to Wyoming residents, Freudenthal told about 75 state Democrats Saturday night.
"This is a party that's not afraid of firearms," Freudenthal said. "It's a party where people are interested in whether the governor managed to shoot an antelope with one shot."
"I don't care about Howard Dean," he said, referring to the chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
DNC Vice Chairman Rep. Mike Honda, D-Calif., who attended meeting, acknowledged that the national organizations had slipped.
"We lost touch at the federal level," Honda said. "Our job is to correct this with you."
But Honda was careful to outline a role for the party in future elections, including placing those like Dean in context.
He said Democrats have learned a lot of hard lessons in the last few years and are ready now to move forward.
"We have a hard time deciding what our core values are and what are issues," he said. "Howard Dean gets that. He's going around the country talking to people."

The democrat party was pretty conservative back in 1960 and earlier. Johnson's War on Poverty changed it forever.
The first step is confession. Good work. Now, the second step is repentance. Become a conservative.
The democrat party WAS liberal before 1960, or have you forgotten Presidents Wilson and Roosevelt (and the "Progressives") they were terrible (and liberal even back in the late 19th/early 20th century!
There is a large war brewing in the democratic party. It really isn't a party anymore. It has become two parties. I wonder how long before the Dean/Moveon wing makes it official and goes over to the Green party. Bottom line, no democrat can win the nomination without kowtowing to the far left wing of the party and no democrat who kowtows to that wing can hope to win a national election or very many local elections in any state that tends red.
But, we won't be hearing/reading any stories like that in the MSM because its the Republicans that are in their death throes, don't ya know.
"There is a large war brewing in the democratic party. It really isn't a party anymore. It has become two parties."
It isn't even 2 parties. It's a loosely tied federation of special interests. The only common thread really binding them is their hatred of the right and of Bush.
Look at the pictures of the war rally this past weekend. I'd say less than half of the people there were to oppose the war. The rest were just trying to promote their own special interests by piggy backing it on to the war rally.
There's a war brewing in the Republican party too, between the neo-cons and the (socially) conservatives. Basically, it is a global culture war, between those who want to be productive and those who want everything handed to them on a platter.
It's easy to identify the core values of the modern Democrat Party: Murder, Treason and Socialism.
Sounds like the Wyoming Democrats might have seen the light. The firearms issue is one we need to keep hammering. The Democrats on the national level are a bunch of gun-hating hoplophobes. We need to keep hammering at this issue and show them for what they are. We should also bust them every time they do a firearms photo op, like Frankenkerry did in the last election campaign.

Disagree - I believe the split is between religious social conservatives who want to regulate personal behavior and favor social spending so long as it fits their religious belief, and more libertarian (little l, not big l) small government conservatives who may or may not be religious but want to see government shrunk, period.
There are several factions in the GOP, but the GOP coalition will hold so long as the Dems have a fighting chance.
Another Zell-o-crat.
There may have been reasonable disagreements with Democrats in the past, but their patriotism and loyalty wasn't questioned. Can't say the same for them today.
Yeah, I saw the hunting pics of J. Friggin' Kerry, too. Another deluded dem.
The problem is that everybody wants smaller government, except for their area or for their pet cause. That's why nothing gets done regarding reducing the size of government.
Snort.
He means they think they're getting better at lying through their teeth about what they stand for.
I have a friend in Wyoming who is a die-hard Democrat. He voted for President Bush after I sent him an article showing John Kerry to be a gun-grabber.
I agree with you.
