PHILADELPHIA (AP) - LaRonika Thomas got upset when Comcast moved the Sci-Fi channel to its digital service this summer, ensuring she couldn't continue to watch her favorite show, "Firefly," without paying $20 more a month.
The Chicago resident received The Golf Channel instead on her basic, analog cable service.
"I don't watch golf. I would rather have static on than that channel," said the theater director.
"It's an awfully big cost," said Thomas. "I haven't canceled my service yet, but I may."

The only way I would get cable or satellite is if I could get it ala carte.
SCIFI, Fox news, Comedy central, History channel...maybe one or two others. That's it.
I don't like paying $40-50 a month for 100 cable channels I'll never watch.
(Plus I watch like 3-4 hours of tv a week anyway, so cable is kind of a waste.)
The only reason I have cable nowadays is for FoxNews and my internet connection. Makes me wish they would allow you to choose which channels you want...
Just download the show and don't pay anything.
History channel, Fox New, FX, Turner Movie Classics, AMC and that's about it. Charge me $3/mo per station and drop the crap like MTV, VH-1, CNN, MSNBC, Disney etc.
Why should I finance lefty crap like Disney and ESPN as part of my basic programming?
download from where?
can you ala'cart with Directv?.....I know we get the "outdoor" channel but I didn't think you could pick and choose what you wanted....

works great.
Cablevision did this to me last month. I was enjoying watching the reruns of the first few seasons of The Amazing Race on the Game Show Network (I'd missed the first seasons) when, smack dab in the middle of Season 2, Cablevision yanked The Game Show Network off Family Cable leaving nothing but static on that channel. When I called them to ask what was going on they simply said they had moved that channel to their Digital Optimum option which I could pay extra to upgrade to. No thanks. How about a refund for taking a channel away from me and replacing it with nothing but static? No dice. If it wasn't for the fact that I also have broadband internet through them, I'd seriously consider moving to satellite TV.
A 4x4 20ft. long, rotor, and antenna cost me 60 bucks total. I get 20 channels. Why pay a monthly fee to watch MSM?
That's the first I've heard ESPN described as "leftist."
Of course, I didn't keep up with the threads when Rush left Sunday NFL Countdown, so...
It's not a bad deal if you're also getting the internet via cable modem.

All your base are belong to us
However, I get my broadband Internet through EarthLink ADSL so I am seriously considering dropping Comcast cable TV altogether in favor of DirecTV with its nearly 200 channels of programming.
John Rocker, they played his gaffe for months
Vijay Singh (commenting on Annika Sornestam playing in a men's tournament). Weeks of beating up on Vajah.
Barry Bonds . . . we;ll, I agree with bashing ThAT puke.
"Viagra" Palermo: driven out of beaseball
and on and on and on.
No, I was just giving my wish list. I have no ala carte capability.
I'll give you a hint. Keith Olberman used to work for ESPN.
Well put, but no one watches KO on MSNBC.
Until the market comes up with this, I'm sticking to my rabbit ears.
