The international inspectors overseeing the weapons decommissioning are about to confirm they have supervised a full disarmament.
It comes two months after the IRA said it had formally ordered an end to its armed struggle.
A report on IRA decommissioning will be presented to the British and Irish Governments tomorrow.
General John De Chastelain, head of the International Commission on Decommissioning, will make his findings public at a press conference later.
Separate statements are expected from the two independent church witnesses, Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams and the IRA.
The two independent church witnesses are believed to be Father Alex Reid and former Methodist President Harold Good.
The latest development in the peace process follows the IRA's groundbreaking statement on July 28.
Sinn Fein chief negotiator Martin McGuinness said: "Of course, this is about more than arms. It is about reviving the peace process, it is about the future of Ireland."
However, Jeffrey Donaldson, senior representative for the Democratic Unionists, said the process had not been sufficiently transparent to reassure people.
And Ulster Unionist leader Sir Reg Empey said: "In order to restore confidence, we call on the decommissioning body to provide a detailed inventory of what has been disposed of."
Prime Minister Tony Blair and Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will now pile pressure on the Democratic Unionists and Sinn Fein, Northern Ireland's two biggest political parties to agree to work together in a devolved administration.
Probably not. Most plastic paddies concentrate on teams like Notre Dame, and couldn't even tell you who was in the All-Ireland final. Let's hear for Tyrone!
Sorry, but Bush not allowing Adams to come here for St. Patricks day had only a little to do with it. This is a power play by Adams that has been in the works for a while - coupled with the backlash of McCartney murder, London bombings, etc. If Bush was serious about cutting off republican terrorism he would be the 1st president to grow some and stop organizations like NORAID from fundraising in this country.
Gee, and I wonder why those Irish Catholics fought against England. Not too hard to figure out, is it?
I am no supporter if the IRA (in fact I detest the communist idiots), but anything that annoys Paisley is good news to me. I detest that man equally.
Seems like they actually fought for England when England had the Catholic king. Remember Charles I, that is basically when all the trouble started.
The date on the story is wrong.
It happened under Clinton!
DK
LOL
"Now the trick is, is to stop the UDL from going after them. "
- No, the trick will be to keep a slavering Slick out of Ireland, where he will try to kick start his "legacy" that he, and only he, had the foresight to broker the disarmament deal.
I wont believe it until Hans Blix confirms it.
I just don't buy the story. Sorry.
Doesn't make any difference in the North. The Irish will have to give up their religion too.
The saddest thing is that Paisley and the Unionists have won big-time here, but they cannot see it. If you go back 12 or 13 years, who in their right mind would have predicted the IRA destroying their arsenal and declaring their war over?
And the Scots are mostly Irish.
Yes, anyone but Kerry! < /tongue in cheek >
It's a sad day when *spit* Paisley *spit* and his Unionist thugs can claim anything like a victory. Screw the Commie IRA but screw that bigot *spit* Paisley *spit* and his punk cronies as well.
"And the Scots are mostly Irish."
You mean in Scotland?
The Scots and the Irish are basically the same ethnic group - both Gaelic, with a good dash of Norse, Norman and Anglo-Saxon blood!
