PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President arrived back at the White House this afternoon after visiting Texas and Louisiana, where he received briefings on the federal disaster response. He also met with state and local officials, and with first responders.
Late today, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco gave a short speech in which she praised President Bush for his efforts to help her state. Saying, in essence, that she would have to work with this President if she had any hope of getting boat-loads of cash, Blanco asked Congress for HUGE amounts of money to essentially rebuild her state. She wants money not just to repair stuff, but to undertake brand new projects.

Was it only four weeks ago when President Bush looked tanned and rested?

PHOTO OF THE DAY: My caption for this photo: Yo! Kathleen. Listen up. You see that guy over there? That's Rick Perry, governor of Texas. Not only did he bail your butt out by taking most of Katrina's refugees off your hands, but he managed to evacuage over 2.6 million people from the Houston-Galveston metro area with only relatively minor hiccups. Biggest evacuation in U.S. history, Kathleen. So how come you and Nagin couldn't get a couple hundred thousand people out of New Orleans ahead of Katrina?

Just heard the President's comments on the potential of the military taking over first in terrorist attacks OR large enough natural disasters.
The left may be really sorry they blamed him for Katrina. They might not like what happens in response to "It's all your fault. FIX IT."
He's a problem solver, and he's going to figure out a way to get the job done when you've got idiot leftist mayors and governors that are supposed to be in charge....
Thanks for the Sunday DOSE, Wolfstar. He still looks tired, but he's going to be OK.

Home is the hero, home from the hills -- or in this case, the bayous. A tired-looking GWB arrives back at the White House this afternoon. Home to Laura, Barney and Beezey, and maybe to a late afternoon of watching the President's Cup golf match. The USA won on Chris DiMarco's great putt on the final hole.
