I've seen that look before.
The second Doberman I got had that look for almost a year.
Even though he loved me, he kept waiting for his old owner to come back for him.
You never forget or ever mistake that "look" for anything else, once you've seen it.

Oh, I know. :-( That is what has been tearing my heart out.
We had to have our Scottish Terrier put to sleep when she was around that age, because of an inoperable tumor. When a dog has been with owners for that long, they are so bonded with the owners and they with the dog that it is just unconscionable to separate them...no, make that evil.
