Oh, great. Chinese Internet surveillance system, which was developed with the extensive help of Google, Cisco, and others, are now spreading beyond the border of China and helping other countries play Big Brothers in cyberspace.
So what is next? U.S. importing this system for the good of 'village' under president Hitlery? I wonder if 'Cas Sustein' would cry foul about this when it actually happens.

Then it's not a real internet, but an ad machine. Like a television with only commercials.... the Chinese QVC network.

Article Snippet:
"As Chinese Web companies seek to enlarge their markets particularly in developing countries, the question looms about whether they will export their values as well. Chinese tech firms have an eye on emerging markets in Africa, South America, and India. These firms are probably peddling censorship tools, says the free-speech advocacy group Reporters Without Borders."

I don't understand why U.S. companies do business with the Chinese. Any country that practices censorship, and jails it's users isn't quite ready for the civilized world.

Thanks for The PING

Iranian mullahs have better suppliers like Sweden, American companies, France & Germany!
However, China tells them how to do it!

That's the concern here, China exporting their technology along with their ideology -- not a good deal for sure.

Because business is about making money, not spreading democratic values. If we don't sell it to them, the logic goes, someone else will. It's old hat. GM sold technology to the nazis as did IBM. It's always about making money. Capital has no values other than as a medium of exchange.

It's a shame, because, as long a Communism flourishes, the rest of the world loses. Unfortunately, you're right. As long as our big businesses eats and/or sells their own for the almighty dollar, those type of repressive governments will continue to survive!

Sorry. Didn't know what else to say. It's not their 'internet censorship' which most concerns me. There are just a 'couple' of OTHER things...

Footnote: there is an aggressive Marxist in New York whose rapist 'husband' has a fiscal interest in a Chinese search engine and these two want to rule the world--and can't do it without stifling the Internet.

I was in an internet cafe in Shenzen about 5 months ago, and I couldn't pull up www.freerepublic.com. Hmmm... I wonder why?

I have to assume that this is a temporary hump. It is possible to restrict the flow of information over the internet ,but it is not possible to block it. What China will get out of this is generations of very clever people who are adept at working around censorship.

If capitalist businesses are going to promote communism worldwide, then perhaps they should not be allowed to practice and profit from capitalism in the states.
I understand it is their right to run their business the way they want. But this is scummy.
