Sadly absent this year... Still, there are quite a few Waltons on the list. I can't fathom what uncle Sam would be worth if he were still alive.

Yet quite a few on that list are vocally against what makes this society great. Many of them, however, worked very hard to get where they are today.

I could not help but notice that they did not put my name on the list. Well screw it, who need the publicity anyhow? I suppose the charities would be banging my door down had I been listed so I should consider this omission fortunate.

6. Walton, Christy, 50, $15.7 billion, Jackson, Wyo., Wal-Mart inheritance 6. Walton, Jim C., 57, $15.7 billion, Bentonville, Ark., Wal-Mart
8. Walton, S. Robson, 61, $15.6 billion, Bentonville, Ark., Wal-Mart
9. Walton, Alice L., 56, $15.5 billion, Fort Worth, Texas, Wal-Mart
10. Walton, Helen R., 86, $15.4 billion, Bentonville, Ark., Wal-Mart
Add the Walton family altogether and there's nearly $80 billion there. Just goes to show what underpaying your employees, squeezing your vendors, and paying slave workers in China to make products for you can do to your net worth....

On the flip side, it shows what controlling inventory costs, successful "Always low prices" marketing, community and charitable involvement, maintaining a family-safe store, fighting against anti-gun weenies, and establishing the most effective distribution centers in the world can do to your net worth.

When you read the list, some interesting totals pop out. If you add together all the surviving members of Sam Walton's family, they total more than Bill Gates, at $75 billion. However, being fair, if you total Gates' former partners in Microsoft, they jump back into the lead at $106 billion (IIRC).
I agree with the second comment. Drat. Missed the list again this year.

I'm all for the innovative practices that Sam Walton brought to retailing. He radically changed the face of merchandising in America, but the employees of Wal-Mart were taken care of when Sam was alive. Now they're not. I don't know how employees there can even pay 1/2 their bills.
