Hi! So, you made it home?

We lost internet yesterday afternoon during our ferocious 30mph wind gusts....just got it back tonight! Not one stinkin drop of rain, either!

Happy to see that you made it back safe and sound....:-)

Did you know that every telephone pole has a specific identifiable number on it. They are nailed on to the pole. The number are placed on a piece of sheet metal about 6 inches by 6 inches. We found one of those pieces of sheet metal with the numbers on it in one of our pastures. I am going to keep it and put it in a small shadow box frame for the kids as a memory keepsake, just to remember Rita. That metal sheet had been ripped away from being nailed at its four corners to the pole.

Good evening, TS. Good to hear all is well in your neck of the woods. Sounds like you saw some interesting images. I would like to read about them in a poem.

Take care now. bf

I finally have lights and AIR CONDITIONING! I'm in Lafayette and there was a lot of rain and tropical storm level winds but we fared well here. I havent had a chance to check on my house personally but did hear that the house faired very well, I did lose a tree and a car but the house is fine. We can't go back into calcasieu parish until further notice though but I have prepared for the long haul.

Boy I've been worried about you. I couldn't remember if you said Lafayette or Lafitte. I knew Lafitte was completely underwater.

I live in Lake Charles and stayed in Lafayette at my sister's. Lafayette was windy and rainy, pretty dry. We lost electricity for a couple of days and except for that it wasn't too bad here.

Hey, we've got power now! I can't stop to chat. I have things to do. For one thing, we have to gather up all the shotguns and put them away.

No looters. None at all.

Maybe next time.

We are praising God for no loss of life and none of our camper rigs or clubhouse sustained damage. We do have limbs down all over the park and we lost power Sat. at 1 p.m. and endured a very hot day today. Power just restored at midnight. Willis was a madhouse today as they sent traffic from Hwy 59 over to I-45. Hope there is gasoline tomorrow.

So happy the storm weakened and thank God for that because the media had everyone panicked. I'm proud of our state and local leaders and it is good that they learned the weak areas of evacuation plans so they can do better next time like have gasoline at evacuation routes.

One young gal trying to get to OK pulled in to our park out of gas and we put her and her dog up at the clubhouse but her kitty had gotten loose and we couldn't find her anywhere. Last night her dad and boyfriend arrived with tons of gas and they camped at the site where she had parked and sure enough the cat came walking up so they left this morning for Ok. Her dad was so grateful that his daughter was taken care of.

Now that power is back we should get some RVs rolling in tomorrow to compsnsate for the rally that had to cancel this weekend. We have plenty of space at Omega Farms so come on down.

Lufkin area Freeper finally checking in. My family and I are safe at my Mom and Dad's house. Our home is ok (roof line vent was blown off and barn roof has some damaged) but we are still without power. Mom and Dad's power was restored yesterday evening.

Lots of trees down and other wind damage around but compared to areas just south/southeast of here, we were spared!

Just got into the office this morning and was glad to hear that everyone made it through the storm okay. We had no problems except for a couple of strong gusts at about 2:00am on Saturday morning. I was happy we didn't board up the house. My girlfriend and I found a golf course open and played nine holes on Sunday before the 100 degree heat made us seek air conditioning again.

Ok, just saw the part of the original post that said you'd love to hear our experiences.

I mainly want to touch on the recovery and relief aspect of things, based on calls I heard on the radio yesterday.

On the positive end, I heard a call from a man from Vidor, TX. He had been in MS, helping with Katrina recovery. He was on his way home, hauling a Bobcat, generators, chainsaws, fuel, water, etc. He gave his cell # and said that anyone who needed help could call because he was on his way. His call brought tears to my eyes!

Then there were calls from the other end of the spectrum. One local lady was almost frantic. She had no power and no ice and was complaining about the heat and the low water pressure and she wanted to know when help was coming. (Her home was undamaged.) Another lady was complaining about "all of the evacuees from Houston" snatching up all of the milk and bread from the grocery stores. She wanted to know how she was supposed to feed her kids.

This is ONE day after, folks. My husband and I could only shake our heads in disbelief. Even after Katrina, even after DAYS of being told by newscasters and weathermen on tv and radio to be prepared, these people did nothing to make sure they could take care of their families. It was truly nauseating.

Needless to say, it was a great relief to know that we were as prepared as well as we could possibly be. And after seeing how rapidly things can get nuts when the population of your town doubles (or triples!) in size overnight, we will be even more prepared in the future.

Lastly, it's disappointing, even if not unexpected, to see the MSM ignoring Rita's affect on my neighbors in the small Texas towns to the southeast.

Yes, it is disappointing. But then, they have almost completely ignored the utter devestation in Mississippi. If we didn't know better, you'd think Katrina only hit NO.

I am in West Texas so I never left, but the 900 from Baytown area who evacuated here... are leaving today to go back home. 9 hour bus trip. They flew here and were not happy about riding bus back home. Many of the ones we got were glad to be here for the past 3 days. They were fed good, given college football game seat on Sat.... most were kind, but the 18 or so who were rude sure did set off our help. They were fed 3 very good meals a day, sleeping was not so great.. all in an airplane hanger, and portable showers and potties, they had a.c. and even complained about out morning temps. I told them they would have to take that up with God. He controls our West Texas temps... It has been interesting... seeing the attitudes of many who are so used to being taken care of by gov't. The rude ones were less than the appreciative ones.
