Harris County, Texas


Judge Eckels is the presiding officer of Harris County Commissioners Court. He is the only member of the five member Court that is elected countywide. His position involves executive, judicial, and legislative functions. As County Judge, he is the director of Harris County’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Judge Eckels is also the chairman of the county’s Juvenile Justice programs. He represents the county on numerous boards and committees, and regional councils of government.

Harris County, with a population of 3.6 million, is the third most populous county in the United States. There are 34 municipalities within the county, including the City of Houston, which is the fourth largest city in the country. Over 1.2 million people live in unincorporated Harris County and rely on the county to be the primary provider of basic government services."
