I've felt all along, since the storm went to Cat 5, that landfall was going to be a crapshoot as to where it was in cyclical changes. If it starts intensifying now, that is very bad, as it will make landfall on the upswing and carry stronger winds further inland.

Hurricane Rita weakens still more
9/23/2005 2:00 p.m. ET

Persistent weakening has brought Hurricane Rita down to a Category 3 storm. The eye is heading for a Saturday morning rendezvous with the upper Texas or southwest Louisiana Gulf Coast.

Yup, it was good in a sense that she bombed out so early... bad, that she got her inner core to a point that it would be hard to totally disrupt. I must say, I thought she would restrengthen last evening, at the latest. It's good she kept weakening, unless she held off till now.

Latest visible loops show the structure improving dramatically. Outflow is still superb.
