Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VI
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 9:39:06 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Dangerous Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall in the northeast Gulf of Mexico within 24 hours. Tornados have spawned in Louisiana. Water is filling the Ninth Ward of New Orleans again. A bus carrying elderly evacuees was gutted by fire this morning outside Dallas, with multiple fatalities. Television crews have positioned their hurricane reporters throughout the region to attain maximum drama effects. Whoooooa.

I guess we've prayed our last prayer...IT'S SHOWTIME! God be with all my fellow Texans on the coastal area. God's covering and protection from the wind and rain. May he be Merciful and kind in our time of fear and despair. AND the Lord said to the storm...PEACE BE STILL!

At least a 20-foot surge; she's likely still dragging the water she dredged up while a Cat 5.

would pay greater-than-usual attention to pawn shops and gun shops after looters in New Orleans raided such stores,

Keep an eye on the Walmarts too.

Flyer,

It is almost surreal up here in Cypress. Folks were visiting in the driveways, flying kites, heck they were even fishing in the community pond.

It is windy here 25 to 30 mph but no rain.

Hang in there.

That stream is about six miles from your brothers, and I think the area around your brothers' place is drained through other streams that flow into Bayou Manchac. The nearest monitoring location that I can find is Bayou Manchac near Little Prairie. I think I've actually kayaked past this station, but it doesn't appear to be working now. The downstream stations on the Amite River are showing levels that aren't too bad right now. I'm not a hydrologist, but I'd assume that things are still draining well at your brothers' place.

Just got off the phone with one brother. So far, so good. He says they are in a good spot and things are draining pretty well right now. Thanks for the information.

Tracking upthread does not help. Please confirm that half a bus load of old folks evacuated died on the way.
