But why the change of heart? I hope the DOD didn't use arm twisting and intimidation tactics to these guys

Nope.
I think they wanted to slow down the process. I'd bet they interviewed them so there'd be no surprises. I'd also bet they had them reread and resign disposition of classified info forms.

I think that President Bush's visit to the Pentagon, his statement on the "show of weakness" encouraging terrorism, coupled with Bill Xlintoon's statements recently, indicates a change of overall approach to the Global War on Terrorism, domestically. President Bush wants the ossified idiots who hang on from administration to administration to be extricated, and is now, thank God, no longer trying to be "civil" with the Xlintoon's and hide their treasonous behavior.
Or am I being too optomistic?

I can't believe they'd give up that easily.

"But why the change of heart?"The DOD probably worked out a deal with Specter's people on the subject of questions so there will be absolutely no questions about the technological operations of the Able Danger unit. The DIA/CIA need to conceal the details of the data processing technology they use to identify likely terrorists. You won't hear any military people talking about the methods they used to identify Atta.

Senator Sessions had remarked during the hearing that SecDef Rumsfeld would be giving some Senators an update on the WOT and Sessions was hoping Rumsfeld would be able to clear up the objection to the witnesses testimony.
Evidently .. it was not Rumsfeld WHO WAS STOPPING THE TESTIMONY .. as the media so thoughtfully put forth .. it was probably some of Gorelick's shills.

There was no change of heart merely the grand drama designed to heighten interest. What could stimulate curiosity better than a "refusal" to testify?
To: slowhand520
I heard whispers that Rumsfelds (sp) name may come up
Perhaps the DOD is going to pull a 9-11 Commission
Bait n Switch? Meaning, gloss over all the incompetence of the Clinton administration and imply the current administration was the one who actually dropped the ball.
Note the media silence on this? UGH~
