Did you know admiral Schaeffer (I think thats his name) one of the men scheduled to testify lost his security clearance due to a $67 cell phone bill? Yet Sandy Berger did not lose his! That fact alone sends a cold chill down my spine!

Doesn't surprise me the least. After holding a TS/EBI clearance - which is worth a lot of moolah to people willing to sell their sell - and leaving that whole world, I must say I have nothing but disgust for these self-important pinheads that smirk to themselves about all the stuff they know, that the lowly unwashed don't. A colleague of mine had his clearance suspended because of a Macy's bill, in his wife's name, that was a few days late. I wasn't willing to work in a work world of such rank stupidity. I've seen very secret things that I was working on blown by some idiot general in the Pentagon via an Aviation Week & Space Technology interview. And I see Sandy Berger committing a CAPITAL offense in the "black" world...and he skates.

These people have no sense of balance, proportion or consistency. Screw'em. Blow the top off Able Danger, let the cockroaches scurry, and let the 'Rats hang.

Great take.

And here I was thinking it was a handy tool to string up her Thighness. Oh well.

They would not have reversed themselves without a decision at the top...Bush must have intervened to produce this change...

Yes.

I certainly don't think Specter is responsible for this change.

Double Yes (although his willingness to persue this is somewhat redeeming of his past frequent transgressions.

It's long past time that Bush stopped defending clinton from his treasonous malfeasances. Bring it out in the open and let clinton explain it.

Absolutely Yes!

By Rummy saying he would not permit open testimony the press jumped all over the story, asking questions. It now guarantees the media will cover it.

More likely that the DOD Brass was trying to keep this testimony from going public because it exposed the implementation of an "illegal" data mining operation. Rummy went along with the request at first, but GW intervened when it started to smell like a coverup (which could be blown up by the MSM). The Left has lately shown little regard for protecting its flanks when going after Bush.

Maybe Bush is a FR lurker.

I doubt whether Bush spends much if any time on the internet. But I'm certain that Bush administration functionaries visit here often to take the pulse of conservative opinion. Bush doesn't shape his decisions by putting his finger to the wind and taking frequent polls, the way clinton did, but he would be remiss not to have his people keeping an eye on the net.

FR was founded during the clinton years, and there was plenty of evidence that clinton's administration--including the White House, the FBI, and the Secret Service, kept an eye on FR.

Clinton must have really PO'ed W.

Clinton hasn't done anything different lately than he has for the past year, a period when both Bush's seemed to be perfectly happy with helping him to rehabilitate his image -- when they should have been exposing his malfeasance for all to witness. No, I think this balderdash has more to do with panic over tanking poll numbers going into the 2006 congressional election year. With the public really pissed about gasoline prices, COMPLETE LACK OF BORDER SECURITY, creeping stability in Iraq, and PROFLIGATE, UNRESTRAINED SPENDING, it's no wonder the 'Pubs are in a (somewhat well-deserved) fix.

W had been being Mr NiceGuy where the Toon was concerned and got stabbed in the back.

Can anyone explain why GW should be surprised at being stabbed in the back by someone of such insubstantial moral fibre as BJ Clinton? Even a high school kid today knows that only Republican ex-presidents hold to the honor of traditional agreements.

Thanks for the link. Bill Gertz has good connections to the Pentagon. But I find his account somewhat confusing. It still isn't clear what lies behind this business or who gave the orders. Somewhat disappointing in that regard. It sounds as if the cover-uppers leaked to him rather than the whistle blowers.

There is a difference between the deliberate focusing of information gathering upon American citizens without a warrant and inadvertently picking up information in the course of other activities. Wiretaps on mob figures would on occasion produce information on other people not named in warrants as well as phone conversations wherein one party was not a target. That did not mean all that information was tossed or the operation shut down.

It is a testimony to the strength of our President that he can stand against so much hate and irrational villiany. The spiritual impact of that much negativity must be enormous.

What is a TS/EBI clearance?

Top Secret/Extended Background Investigation clearance. Beyond that, it's not wise to describe it any further. But, you practically have to remember what you ate for breakfast when you were six. The clearance takes a year or more, and cost the government $40,000 back when I got mine. They go back and talk to all the people you associated with, including the people that may wanna shove a knife in your back. You have to retroactively mind all your p's and q's, and live a quiet life of an ascetic monk to make sure you don't get out of step with the security weenies, come "update" time (every 5 years). Unless, of course, you are a high-level Democrat.

So all the worker minions are read the riot act and monitored with electron microscopes, but high-level low-life Clintonistas seemed to waltz right past this intense scrutiny and got these clearances handed out like party flyers, and they had access to a helluva lot more than the minions did. It's like locking the back doors and windows with thirty bolt locks each, then flinging the front door wide open.

Speaking as a former Marine and knowing something about the security clearance process I was flabbergasted by the fact Clintonistas (starting with Bill & Hill) were able to get the most minimal security clearance, let alone top security. The Clinton gang certainly made a mockery of the system.

And w/faxes, they have to change the toner or ink cartridge. Nobody likes to do that, not even bureaucrats. Faxes can shut down the govt. They are effective.
