Schroeder shows remorse for attacking Merkel
Reuters
Sep. 22, 2005 - Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said on Thursday he may have gone too far with a bullying TV attack on conservative leader Angela Merkel that has drawn widespread condemnation all week -- even from his wife.
"My wife said I was not at my best; I have nothing to add to that," Schroeder said when asked if he regretted a television performance on Sunday in which he has been criticized as rude. Schroeder had belittled Merkel in a joint television appearance.
Schroeder has already said his wife had admonished him for being "a bit too rough" and "not statesman-like enough" in the television discussion with Merkel and leaders of the other parties.
Along with the chairman of his Social Democrat party Franz Muentefering, Schroeder met Merkel and other Christian Democrat leaders on Thursday to explore the possibility of forming a grand coalition between the two parties.
In an interview that appeared in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit, Schroeder also expressed remorse.
"It wasn't good, I know," he said when asked about the television attack on Merkel. He added it wasn't well thought out but rather an honest reaction to what he perceived to be a general bias in the media against his SPD-Greens government.
Crocodile tears, I'd wager.
Well, what do you expect from a street fighter from the Bader-Meinhoff gang? Has Schroeder officially stolen the election yet?
Like another Chancellor before him, he probably thinks the German people are "unworthy" of him.
Are you kidding me? This guy is basically a mob-guy? I guess I'm not really that surprised.......
I have known a lot of liberals who like to point to Germany on how they would like this country to be ran. I always liked to point out the 11% UE rate, but this is just too funny.

_______
How about "I withdraw my name from consideration as your leader, ya putz!"
" "My wife said I was not at my best; I have nothing to add to that," Schroeder said..."
I wonder if Gerhard the Jerk beat her afterwards.
It's also funny to hear a Euro complaining of conservative bias in the media.
Latest news just in: A survey in Germany shows that 46% of the population favors Merkel over Schroeder as Kanzlerin and only 44% favor Schroeder over Merkel. The Commies are irrelevant in this as they hate Schroeder as much as Merkel.
Now, hopefully the American commies will hate Hillary Clinton when she honorably supports her decision to liberate Iraq...leaving her honorably without a majority for the rest of her liberal views.
Next, he'll be showing remorse for attacking Bush.
Fischer was a masked, bomb-throwing terrorist in the late 60s/early 70s and there is footage of him kicking a wounded policeman.
Fischer is close, personal friends with Daniel Cohn-Bendit - a French representative in the European parliament, copresident of the European Green party, and an admitted child molester.
So........he's not really apologizing. I'm shocked. < /sarcasm >
Hillary is an american commie!
>Fischer was a masked, bomb-throwing terrorist in the late 60s/early 70s and there is footage of him kicking a wounded policeman.<
Nearly right! Fischer belonged to a group which fought against the police in Frankfurt during demos and squat clearances etc. The Frankfurt police tended to lash out a lot at lefties in those days and the left wanted a group to hold them off a bit.
"Bomb-throwing terrorist" is of course wrong. Does anybody throw bombs these days? He was never a terrorist either, though he was linked to people who were linked to people who might have been terrorists...
The footage shows Fischer and a few of his troop (in motorbike helmets) grappling with baton-wielding and helmeted police; it's been on German TV quite often. "Wounded" policeman is also wrong; the guy was pretty fit but got a bit of a kicking off Fischer and a mate.
Funnily enough, they met up a few years ago for a reconciliatory beer or two, when Fischer found out who his opponent was. The policeman's name was Marx!
Fischer has been very open about his past, admitted his youthful misdemeanours, and come out very strongly against leftist terror. This brought him much kudos, so that polls consistently show him to be Germany's most popular politician. He's also a great public speaker. If a coalition of the CDU/FDP with the Greens occurs, maybe he could stay on as Foreign Minister. I doubt this will happen though.
Well, we shouldn't look too closely at politicians' past lives, should we?
The sad thing is that in countries like Greece, there are alot of old Red Brigades types in government.
Molotov cocktails were quite popular devices among this set in the 1960s. I find it hard to believe that Joschka Fischer wasn't involved.
And I've seen the tape - the policeman just absorbed one illegal blow and Fischer then jumps in with a faggoty two-against-one sucker attack.
You are way too soft - all those lefties in the 80s deserved to get the snot kicked out of them and they had no right to raise a hand against the police who were neforcing the law.
Fischer has been very open about his past, admitted his youthful misdemeanours, and come out very strongly against leftist terror.
Except for Palestinian terror which he thinks is peachy.

Why not?
