As someone else on Pnada's Thumb commented, a prime example of rats leaving a sinking ship.

Isn't DI on record with the "Wedge" document?

Discovery Institute, painfully aware that it has no intellectual content in the bag called ID, has decided that science for now must "teach the controversy." "The controversy" is a grab-bag of screeches against evolution. Dover's school board has ignored this guidance, plunged ahead, and mandated the teaching of that empty bag called ID.

"The Controversy" is indefensible anyway, as none of the attacks on evolution have any real merit under critical examination. Dover's policy of teaching "ID" alongside of evolution is a real laugher.

"What we've been discussing for the last 50 minutes, class, is what we call "the evolutionary scenario." Now, as to the other theory: God, er, that is, the Intelligent Designer--maybe it was the Raelians but that would be silly--may have designed it or something like it sometime. Nobody knows for sure.

"What's that, Billy? That's not really equal time? How long does it take to say, 'The Intelligent Designer did it?'"

Observation trumps belief. Science is neutral on the subject of religion, and if something in your religion is in conflict with science, that's just too bad. You can't possibly expect science to accommodate whatever "feelings" you might have.

Intelligent design says living things are so complicated they had to have been created by a higher being,

That's got to be the dumbest most illogical statement of all time! Any time some "higher being" creates something new, it's going to be designed as simplistically as functionally possible. Only evolution can explain unnecessary non functioning complications not being discarded from the design after they're no longer of use.

But Discovery Institute is the leading organization touting intelligent design research and supporting the scientists and scholars who want to investigate it.

They just can't decide when.

Intelligent designers down on Dover.

Just saw this. Haven't even read the article. My 'hypothesis' is they don't want to look like fools. I will now test this hypothesis through observation and see if I'm right.

the institute doesn't support the Dover school board's stand because it doesn't want intelligent design to become a political issue

ROFLOL. Of course, because it's only a 'scientific controversy'.

Where are all the replies and rebuttals from the ID proponents and supporters?

Nah. Just a tactical retreat. They realize overt teaching of "intelligent design" isn't going to get past the courts. So they're now pushing for "criticisms of evolution" in the hope that for that time being it will pass constitutional muster.

Then, they hope, if there's a change on SCOTUS, they'll try to push through full-blown ID.
