IMMEDIATE RITA EVAC TRAFFIC RECOMMENDATIONS
That is all flat land down there and I don't know why people don't just start cutting fences.
Listened to the XM Radio Houston channel on the way to work. HOV lanes are going to be converted to outbound only, and the interstates to contraflow by 10:00. All toll roads are open w/o tolls. The loop is screwed, 45 & 290 are screwed, 10 & 59 sound a little better. My girlfriend is hoping to leave around 10:00 or 11:00. Our theory is that after the interstates are opened in both directions, the queue will untangle.

Kind of like my theory of the buffet at a wedding. No point rushing to get in line and wait for 25 minutes to get to the food when you can sit and enjoy good company until the line goes down and then you can dig in. (Provided it's been catered properly).
Possibly, like in LA they may not think the hurricane is as powerful as it actually is. They lived through countless others, so they may think Rita isn't any worse.
Add to that the evacuation "RECOMMENDATIONS" and people don't take is seriously.
The state should just accept upfront they will be fined by the FCC and just play on all the airwaves simple direct instructions:
"Get the f**k out now, y'all!!!"
Ping
The local news last night said Texas was placing fuel trucks along the roads to help those who run out. Of course if you run out in the wrong place then what??
I think I like living in the "sticks".
BTW, I heard that the s-bound lanes will soon be turned north.
I read that they have a plan...
Gov Perry just announced his evacuation plan for Houston.
Mexicans use I-10 West to San Antonio
Cajuns use I-10 East to Lafayette.
Rednecks use 59 North to East Texas.
Republicans fly Continental to Washington DC.
Yankees and Democrats use 45 South to Galveston.
Longhorns use 290 West to Austin.
Aggies use 610 Loop.
;) (Yes, this is a serious situation, it's still funny!)
Is it in a low lying area? What part of Houston?
That was good!Tex you need a laugh.
What, wait at the campsite for 2 more days?
;-)
midtown...near downtown...not low lying...I would rather be in this apartment than on the road when this thing hits..the officials are only handing out a gallon apiece for people that run out.
Male announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone.
Female announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone.
Male announcer: The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a white zone.
Female announcer: No, the white zone is for loading. Now, there is no stopping in a RED zone.
Male announcer: The red zone has always been for loading.
Female announcer: Don't you tell me which zone is for loading, and which zone is for unloading.
Male announcer: Look Betty, don't start up with your white zone shit again.
male announcer: There's just no stopping in a white zone.
Female announcer: Oh really, Vernon? Why pretend, we both know perfectly well what this is about. You want me to have an abortion.
Male announcer: It's really the only sensible thing to do, if its done safely. Therapeutically there's no danger involved.
ROFLOL! Thanks for the levity. Prayers for all in this monster's path.
Sounds wise. My bother and his wife are in a low lying area in the northwest part of Houston. But they are hunkering down and staying. We are praying for them.
OMG!!! ROFLMAO!!!!
For those with animals/livestock the usda and county extension agents are phone chaining with info on who in the areas out of storms wrath have pasture/shelter available.
