AS SEN. Hillary Clinton ratchets up her attacks on Presi dent Bush, some Democrats think they smell an explanation: the threat of a 2008 Al Gore presidential bid that could come at her from the left on Iraq.
The former vice president is suddenly re-emerging as a vocal and visible Bush-basher he's slated to star at a Democratic National Committee fund-raiser for big donors in Washington next Tuesday.
"He's keeping a very strong public profile. He was the first major Democrat to oppose the Iraq war. He's keeping in touch around the country and doing a lot of speeches. You don't do all that if your goal is to play celebrity golf," says a Democratic fund-raiser.
A top Dem strategist adds: "Americans love comebacks and Gore could come back as a real human being instead of a wooden guy. He could come back as the new Nixon somebody who went into the wilderness and found himself."

I am praying he runs just for the entertainment potential.
her ankles are as fat as his neck
The Dems. running in 2008 won't be running against President Bush, and they won't (at first) know who their opponent will be, so maybe they will have to run against each other first!
Al and sKerry are branded losers. The Dem faithful are ruthless with their failures. They'll never get the nomination.
She has kankles. :p
What Al Gore found:
Or in Gore's case: "went into the wilderness, grew a beard, got fat and lost his mind."
Did you know Kerry was in Vietnam?
Hillary will be very upset if she's forced to actually work for the Dem nomination.
Didn't Nixon send him to Cambodia on a secret mission to destroy the Khmer Rouge?
Yes Nixon did do that, however the left doesn't speak of it very much because it shows how smart Nixon really was because the Khmer Rouge didn't come into being for over 20 more years.
Tennessee Two-by-Four Alert!
how's his sinkhole of a television station coming along?
I really can't wait...this will be a primary to remember.
I can't imagine that they won't all destroy each other in the process, maming whoever can crawl to the top of the body heap.
I believe that we're going to hear a lot more about the Nixon/Gore parallel in the next few years.
Despite Algore's leftist kookiness since his 2000 loss, I believe that he still may have a strong base of support among Clinton (Bill, not Hillary) loyalists. These are not only the kooks within the 'Rat party circles, but (more importantly) the non-political masses who care more about who wins on American Idol and only pay attention to politics in the week before an election.
I think most of the 'Rats realize that although Hildabeast may play well to their kook base, she's radioactive among the public at large and doesn't stand a chance of winning any Southern states. If Algore moderates his tone and adds a little more Tennessee twang to his voice, he could very well be the Nixon of 2008.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
