FILL UP your freezer with water bottles (drain ever so slightly and squeeze slightly so they don't split open).

Find jugs and fill them with water -- I don't get this fascination with the stores running out of water. If you don't have jugs, go to the store and buy anything that hold liquid, and fill it with water. A couple of large plastic containers would do great, like those 50-gallon trash cans, or rubbermaid stuff.

Your water is on now, use it to make your own supply. Your power is on, use it to freeze stuff. Turn down the temperature on your frig, and fill it with water as well (temperature holds better when your frig is full).

NOBODY should have trouble with water who is listening. Just fill stuff up.

Wonderful advice. You would be great to have around in a crisis.

"Turn down the temperature on your frig,"

Turn down the temp of the A/C as well. Helps to have that extra cool in the event you loose power.

True and although it won't help now, for future reference most of the camping supply places (Cabelas, Bass Pro, Sportsmans Guide(an online store/catalog) etc) have plastic collapsible water containers. THey are 3-5 gallon I believe and squish down when empty so they don't take up much space when not needed.

I might add that hot water heaters hold lots of water. Turn off the water supply valve to the house just before things get bad so the water can't drain out or get contaminated, turn off the gas or electric to the heater and you can use the spigot at the bottom of the heater to retrieve 30 or 40 gallons of water as needed.

My niece in Tomball told me last night that she was filling and freezing zip-lock bags of water.
