Hi! I'm happy to say hubby finally arrived here at 3:45PM ~ 25 hours after leaving Galveston, with one fuel stop and a stop to eat in Lufkin.
He ended up going up to Tyler and back-tracking into Dallas on I-20 - but at least from Lufkin on the traffic moved.
This trip was really tough on his aunt, but she is a trooper and a darned tough ol' gal. I think once she gets some sleep she will be okay.
I sure appreciated having y'all here through this wait.....I tried not to stress about them too much but I knew his aunt was car sick and when the hours kept passing and they just weren't getting anywhere I was really starting to worry.
Hubby and aunt have both gone to bed and all is well in our household this afternoon!
Thank you Lord and thank you Freepers!
What terrific news!! Whew, right?
Thank you LORD!!!!!
And thanks, Zacs Mom for letting us all know. I've been praying for them ever since you posted last night.
Bless your aunt...she DOES sound like a real trooper!!
Yea, great news.
Thanks for the report. Sounds like your family is of good stock!
I'm thinking that people might be better off trying the secondary roads. From the map, there's a whole bunch that head west. Once you are 20-30 miles west, you can try heading north, and it will probably get you to where you need to go faster than I-45. The some total of available lanes on secondary roads is much more than the number of interstate lanes. You might also have a better chance of finding a gas station that still has gas.
Great news! :)
That is great to hear. Hopefully, he got her meds when he left Galveston. If so, she ought to be fine in a day or so and will have a story to tell.
Now all you have to worry about is Rita coming up there to see you. The predictors are "all over the map" once it comes ashore but it is most common for hurricanes to go Northeast after landfall. Hopefully, that's what this one will do.
Words fail me...
Can't wait to hear about the marvelous evening you have planned for them...tomorrow...after they have a long sleep.
Glad to hear aunt and hubby are home.
Just got a report from sister, Alexis the Bengal Kitty located at Hw6 & Bellaire.
Her power went out so she called and after being directed to several different phone numbers she finally found a live person to talk to. She has power now but the interesting part is why the power is going out now. Seems the deadlocked traffic is causing it's own mini heat storm and is causing transformers to overheat.
My son is now at her house and will be staying with her through whatever happens. He's never been in any really bad weather or power outage so my sister is having to educate him on little things like not opening the refrigerator or freezer door and gaze at the goodie when the power is out. Bless his heart! Sometimes he doesn't have the sense God gave a goose.
