Storm looks to be just completing an ERC, and getting its act back together. IR looks impressive (if not downright scary).

Its going to lose some steam before landfall, but its going to be a major, for sure.

It may sound outrageous, but based on the latest data NOLA does need to be alarmed. Besides the fact that Rita has moved eastward, (I think) those levees were just given a band-aid fix and may not continue to hold up with more storm surge and rain.

"I'd invoke RowVeeWade on that one."

RoeVeeWade? Those are your options on how to get out of your neighborhood after the storm surge hits.

That was a wise crack from Steve Douce (sp?) this morning.
He meant that the experts are using words like "potentially catastrophic".

you are correct. if they get 3-5 inches of rain, they're under water again, regardless of levees.

You may be right. All I know is, I wouldn't recommend doing it unless your engine is on fire or something drastic like that (unless your buddies dare you to, and then all bets are off). LOL!

Would that be a "hold muh beer" moment? ?8^)

I watched these feeds last night, and they showed truck after truck filling up and said most of them werent even evacuating. They even showed one guy who wouldnt put regular unleaded into his Discovery....He just parked it there until the premium fuel truck would show up...if ever.

It weakened a bit earlier, but new sat pics show it is re-strengthening again.

Fox meteorologist just said that the storm has more potential to strengthen since it is going more east and will be over water longer!

Yes. Any more to the east and, as it goes inland (remember, they were saying something about it going into Oklahoma before), and New Orleans will get much more than they can handle. It only has to pass nearby.

Oh, I agree, the slower the forward speed of Rita is, the more potential it has to shift eastward; it's just that NOLA should not have had returnees in vulnerable areas yet anyway. We can thank Nagin and his "reinsertion" plan.

Yes. If you look at a satellite image of the storm, you can see how lopsided it looks. The west is better beause the winds and rain aren't as bad and it doesn't extend out as far. You don't have to be as far out from the eye to miss the cloud sheild and as it veers off to the north and east, you don't have the whole width of the storm to pass over you.
