what exactly are Milibars? 1 "bar" is nominal sea level atmosphreic pressure. 1,000 millibars to a bar. 898 mb is .898 of normal atmospheric pressure at sea level.

A millibar is a measure of atmospheric pressure. standard pressure is 1012 MBS.
The lower the central pressure of a hurricane, the stronger it becomes. a central pressure of 900 is very low, and, as we can see, a cat 5 hurricane is the result.
