Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast
Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu
A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

I'm not an expert .. but I think just incase they have to make a crash landing .. that the plane won't explode as bad with a full tank ... this plane was traveling from CA to NY I was on a flight from Stl to Birmingham Al back in the 70's and the pilot didn't know if our landing gear was down and if it was if it was locked, so they circled the airport and dumped all the fuel, then went in. The runway was 'foamed' and emergency vehicles paralleled us down the runway. There were a lot of prayers said. Luckily it was a malfunctioning light.

Fox's Shepard Smith pointed out that the Frog airplane, a 300A Airbus, cannot dump fuel. It has no doubt flown around to consume fuel to lessen the danger of fire when a "soft" landing is attempted.
Such landings are often pulled off without injuring anyone aboard. Let us pray that this is such a landing.

It's a big building where sick people get better, but that's not important now...

I can't help thinking of Leslie Nielsen sticking his head in the cockpit now and saying,
"I just want to wish you both good luck, we're all counting on you."

The airplane made the landing and the gear stayed cockeyed like it is now, it ground down thru the wheel halves to the axle and then some. As I remember the pilots were not even aware of the situation till the plane touched down, so there was no foam or anything. No one got hurt

FoxNews has really dropped the ball on this.
MSNBC is showing full coverage, no breaks for commercials.
CNN is showing full coverage with commercial breaks.
FoxNews does now have a side window showing the plane, but O'Reilly is interviewing Trump.

I don't think Shep would be able to handle this one. Insufficient IQ.
