A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.
KABC: LAX is NOT on standby....
Live on Channel 8 KFMB out of San Diego.
I just changed channels and heard them say the jet had taken off from Burbank... they say they will keep following this with updates.
nothing on fox, cnn, or PMSNBC
"KFI says there's a possibility of the gear snapping off and a nose landing occuring."
Sounds about right. Should make for dramatic video but everyone should be fine. As someone said, a main gear would be a far worse situation. Probably better to do a full gear up landing then that. (private pilot here)
It's now on KUSI/9 in San Diego.
Are you sure they departed LAX? Jet Blue has a base at Long Beach and LB has a great crashcrew stationed there.
Sounds like a rather scarey balancing act!
LOL! All of us seem to be trying to watch the same channel down here : )
btw.. great to see you again!
I've taken Jet Blue twice out of Long Beach. Prayers for all aboard. How does the gear get bent?
Brother! I had to rewind, thinking I missed something... nope - just what you said - they'll "monitor it" and keep us informed.
I did find a live webcast out of L.A...

Clinton Disease??
you manufacture it in france ;)
Someone else just said after KABC said NOT LAX that they mentioned possibly diverting them to a military place to land? Did you hear that? Not sure if someone else misheard and reported that or if that's really what they meant?
Yeah right, they jsut claim to have problems so they can land to see a soccer game(see earlier story today).
I hope they make it down safe.
We had a very low flying commercial aircraft in my area. I didn't see it, only heard it and it sounded like it was coming down as it made a turn. I've been trying to get more info from an eye witness.
BUMP
There's aprox. 145 passengers onboard... They haven't said where they will be landing yet...As soon I hear where I be sure to post!

What possible terrorist situation in Jersey City?
He's off the coast of Long Beach now, turning and possibly setting back up for Long Beach, doesn't look like LAX...
(then my wife made me turn -- sigh)
