Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast
Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu
A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

---Smonk says because it's French made.
I "think" he's joking.---
I was absolutely joking. french landing gear doesn't know forwards from sideways? like french tanks have backup lights?

MSNBC just said that they are expecting to land at 5:25pm local time...
This is going to be intense. Lord have mercy on them.
At least LAFD is on the ground, they'll be in good hands!

BTW, the landing will be at 5:25 pm"
I need picture-in-picture. Or at least I need to figure out how to work it on my TV.

Yet the ABC news report that just broke in on my Cardinals game, said that that plane doesn't have a fuel jettison system and would have to circle for hours.
This is the main reason I hate breaking news because you get several differing versions.

The connection is The UAL airplane had OSV heavy maintenance on the AirBus, JetBlue has OSV heavy maintenance done in El Salvador.

Army Air Corps says they are not. That they can't. I saw the fuel being dumped myself on the close-up on MSNBC.
FAA saying now they are dumping fuel.
