I think this will resolve in two ways. 1. when the nose gear touches down the wheels will rotate to a correct orientation and the aircraft will roll to a stop. 2. when the aircraft lands the nosegear will collapse and the aircraft will slide to a stop on the runway. Either way, the highest potential for injury for those on board is when they exit the aircraft if they have to use the slides.

That's what I have been wondering too, Onyx. How did that gear get messed up?

They surely can't blame this one on those darned birds!

That's true. When it comes to Airbus the plane, not the pilot, knows best. We'll see.

Still BURNING off fuel since the Airbus cannot dump fuel. Must fly probably a couple hours to get the weight down. BEST CASE is the gear snaps off.

Did they say it was an Airbus?

No. A soft field landing refers to a type of landing where you come in steep and slow with full flaps and hold the nose off the ground as long as possible to try and prevent the gear from sinking into a "soft" fileld, such as a water soaked grass runway.

I'm a pilot.

My understanding is that they need the longest runway that they can find

Then why aren't they going to Edwards AFB? Edwards has the field, the equipment, etc. and the plane needs to burn off fuel anyway.

For all you guys ripping airbus planes, take a look at who built the planes in the last 5 or 6 crashes.

Airbus makes great planes, but even great planes have problems.

Hope it is OK, they got a good long runway at Long Beach airport, and Jet Blue has some very good pilots.

When an aircraft dumps fuel it disipates almost instantly. Anything underneath the aircraft as it dumps fuel will never know what went on above them.

Being out the east end of Los Angeles, I have to say it is quite strange not to see anyone in the pattern to land at LAX - does anyone know where they are diverting the flights to? Ontario? (Not seeing the normal 5pm Southwest flights coming over either.)

I think it's far more likely the front gear will simply snap off. Same result though.

Army Air Corps says they are not. That they can't.

Can you see it being dumped or is PMSNBC just saying so?

The landing will not be shown live until they're sure it's down safely.

Just heard someone on WABC radio saying the plane has no ability to drop fuel.
