Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)
KABC Channel 7, live broadcast
Posted on 09/21/2005 4:21:43 PM PDT by kingu
A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.

Some guy told MSNBC that they were able to watch cable TV until about "3 or 4 minutes" before they landed. How creepy.

please...like I said...the entertainment companies subsidized Jet Blue's entry to Burbank...they took Aloha's gate when they bailed (not too many people trust a 737 to Hawaii)...there are a lot of NBCUniversal, Time Warner, Disney, DreamWorks people that fly those planes.

City of Los Angeles responded more equipment to this plane than the entire State of Louisiana did for Katrina. You bet.

My point stands. The images weren't even that big. Drop it, bud.
To: Black Tooth
They even had two USFS helos leave a brush fire and hover in the area.

yeah, but the poor guy is still downloading a 500K shower stall every time he reloads the thread. He needs a bigger cache - or broadband.
Granted, I do quite a bit of digital photography so my idea of high-resolution is considerably different than his.

Channel 4 now has interview with an NBC personnel on the plane.
Did view some of the TV commentary on the airplane.

That was truely spectacular. Watching the plane just prior to landing. Then watching the front gear hit and hopeing that the sparks didn't cause an explosion. Bravo.
