Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part III

Extremely dangerous and large Category Five Hurricane Rita is churning westward across the Gulf of Mexico toward Texas. Air Force Reconnaissance indicated the central pressure has dropped to 904mb, making Rita the fifth most intense hurricane ever in the Atlantic Basin.

Hurricane and Tropical Storm Watches have been issued from Northern Mexico through the South Louisiana coastline. Galveston TX used school buses to evacuate residents. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations are in effect along the Texas coastline.

Thank God...

I had to call my son, who is a pilot and flight instructor to find out what he thought of the situation...he said, "Ah, Mom, this will be fine,...these landings are easier than you think!"....

Sure enough, it landed like he said.!

I worked north of Houston today. Driving home I saw the almost gridlock of those getting out. Yikes!

Remember this, people: Gridlock is what it may look like, but this storm is 2 days out. Traffic might move slow, but it moves. In 2 days you WILL be out of there, should you decide to get out NOW.

Then follow the official recommendation. However, please do try to dig up some flood-probability maps. They seem to be out there on the internet. If you are in a high-risk zone, GIT.
