Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part III

Extremely dangerous and large Category Five Hurricane Rita is churning westward across the Gulf of Mexico toward Texas. Air Force Reconnaissance indicated the central pressure has dropped to 904mb, making Rita the fifth most intense hurricane ever in the Atlantic Basin.

Hurricane and Tropical Storm Watches have been issued from Northern Mexico through the South Louisiana coastline. Galveston TX used school buses to evacuate residents. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations are in effect along the Texas coastline.

It's pretty weird. All I did was observe that it's damned peculiar that two cat-5 storms are making landfall within 30 days of one another.

No, nobody had to cry. He heard on the radio that winds could get up to 190MPH. He softened pretty quickly.

We're going to stay with his cousin in Austin. They were our next door neighbors until last Friday when they moved.

I'll be online there so I'll be checking in.

Latest Vortex Data Report direct from the NHC (archives can be found somewhere on Texas A&M's site; that link is buried somewhere in Thread II). There's also a link that explains how to read them.
