Bette Midler struck one of the few sour notes at last night's Madison Square Garden benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims when she made a joke about President Bush.
"I know George Bush. . . . I met him in the 1970s through his coke dealer," she said.
The crowd booed the not-so-divine Ms. M for the quip.
I'm disgusted with Bette. I actually liked her.
You're right it wouldn't be a huge loss. I can testify to that. It's really not even that hard. I haven't been to a movie since the latest Star Wars flick (a family outing), and it had been a long time before that... Passion of the Christ.
I simply don't care for the expense, inconvenience, and so forth of going to a theater to see trash that gives me a headache anyway. I certainly have no intention of letting my hard earned money put bread in the mouths of people who hate everything I believe in.
As for television, well there are a few shows I enjoy, but none so much that I would continue to watch if the actors felt like they needed to tell me what to think in an area they have no credentials.
Let's see...
George Clooney
Dixie Chicks
Harry Belafante
Cher
Celine Dion
Pierce Brosnan
Madonna
Burt Bacharach
Sean Penn
Julia Roberts
There are so many, I'm blanking out....Who else?
OH PLEASE....STOP IT...STOP IT. She's the most incredible performer of our generation. Her voice is amazing, she's a great actress and as a live performer, there's nobody out there who rivals her. She's just one of those sheltered, rich (Jewish) limousine liberals. What do you expect?
Hard to believe that she was dissed by a NYC crowd?
"...Who else?..."
Don't worry. That question will keep answering itself.
As if she didn't have her own coke dealer back then.
What a damn hypocrite.

Greater humility. To admit she's sheltered and naive is one thing. But what bothers me (probably most of us) are these idiots who by virtue of their celebrity status can stand before a throng of thousands, or millions if on television, and beltch their stupidity as if it were eternal wisdom. It's the height of arrogance. Bette Midler's talented; I love her movies; but she's an idiot, and she and everyone of her ilk deserve to be taken down a peg for their insolent stupidity.

Exactly which one of these career-rockets would it ruin my life to ignore?
Burt Bacarach?
Sean Penn?
This is actually sort of a blessing.
Can't we get Howard Stern onto this list, too?
It counts if I'm already ignoring all these people anyhow, doesn't it?
The picture indicates to me that she is on the Rosie O'Donut diet.
Danny Glover, Damon Wayans...
One's life might actually be enriched to ignore the entire lot of them.
Cyril Neville is a great musician, but he is also an ignorant imbicile who absolutely despises white people. There is a river of racist hatred towards whites running through many of the blacks in New Orleans. This accounts for much of the disfunction that so characterizes this group. Their deprivations are almost entirely due to their own failings, yet their pathological obsession with largely imagined mistreatment at the hands of others distracts them from bettering themselves.
I have a mission for our Photoshop pros here. Do pics of all the ant-Bush hating celebs, have them wearing stuck on stupid gear, t-shirts, hats, signs, etc. I challenge all you creative ones to produce some of these pics. Start with Bette Midler, Sean Pennhead, and Michael Moore. Of course there's Moonbat Sheehan, Danny Glover, Banana Boat Belafonte, and many others. GET TO WORK ON THESE - NOW!
I noticed someone already registered stuckonstupid.com. Bet it was someone from this site.
Rush played a couple minutes of it.
Yes, there was more, and it was vulgar and pathetic from start to finish. Rat hate speech.
The first part of this post is an opinion, but I concede that its a legitimate one. As for the last sentence, I have to ask what should she expect after her tirade? That conservatives are going to continue to pad her bank account?
I can state with absolute certainty that there's not an entertainer alive who should believe that they can insult me, my values, or those I hold in esteem and continue to count on my support.
