When Rita strikes I expect that the local and state response will be MUCH better than Katrina. I also expect the same for the Feds.
My guess is also that if things go rather well, the attacks will be loud as ever that Bush "saved his own state" and that Texas isn't poor like Louisiana, etc.
In fact, I would wager the memos have already been typed up and they have simply left the dates off them and the actual cities that are struck until this weekend when they release them to the press.
It's sad, but why do we all know it's coming!
With Rita, Texas is better prepared for the emergency, freeing the Feds to focus on their own job this time. Also notice how Mississippi had things covered, and so the Feds weren't an issue there, either.
And notice how Florida was able to handle 3 hurricanes in a row recently without any incident.
Five hurricanes, four states, only one disaster. Obviously, Nagin and Blanco are the weakest links. Goodbye...
You don't need to worry about voting for a DUmocRAT over Bush. I'm pretty sure he isn't going to run again.
Democratic critics said the preparations for Rita seemed to exceed those for Katrina, and called anew for an independent panel to investigate why.
"It's nice to have the Bush administration recognize the importance of a federal response to Rita, but why weren't they proactively mobilizing and organizing like this for Katrina?" said Rebecca Kirszner, a spokeswoman for Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

Didn't stick. You'd think they'd learn after awhile.
You're right...and don't forget, TX is Bush's home state AND home to the Evil Big Oil, so that's why TX had A Plan while LA/NOLA was left without A Clue.
because Gov Perry declaired an emergency for the coastal counties THREE days before the storm is due to hit.
How many people here feel that RFK Jr. is as big an a$$hole as Ron Reagan Jr??? ( I know, but the Jr. thing seems to flow.)
Sissy Rats ! Both of them.
1. Global Warming.
2. Karma for our bad acts.
3. Women, children, and minorities hardest hit.
4. Aid not reaching women, children, and minorities
5. Bush gives favoritism to Texas
6. Democratic areas not getting aid
7. Repeated stories about family from NO that made new home in Houston only to have it destroyed again.
Ron Reagan Jr HAS a big asshole. There's a difference.
With all the Mexicans in Texas, how long until somebody says, "George Bush doesn't care about Hispanics."
This is going to get really ugly when the storm passes. No matter how well the response goes, the president will get hammered. How do I know this? Texas' 18th Congressional District is located in the city of Houston, Texas. It's congressperson is Shiela Jackson Lee. Nuf said...
