One of the best-ever pieces of political theater occurred back in 1990, when Molly Yard and Ellie Smeal were testifying before a Senate committee. Strom Thurmond had no questions, but did take the time to mention the presence of the two "lovely ladies."
That was excellent, but the real kicker was Ellie Smeal's post-testimony news conference, at which she indignantly took the Senator to task for insulting her, and "her sister" by calling them "lovely ladies."
I doubt she ever realized what she was saying.
