One of my best friends lives in a wonderful home in Palacios, TX. If the track holds Rita will go right over her home. I called her at 5AM this morning and told her and her family to GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE. So we're meeting up in College Station. Her son goes to A & M and has a large apartment there. That's where I'll be. If I can get online at Stephens apartment I'll be checking it.
Great! All batteried up?
What about Splendora, Texas? My aunt and cousin live in Splendora and were boarding up and taping up windows, which sounds sort of like weak protection in this storm.
Hey sheild...I left at 2pm and I am at a shelter here in College Station...my 2 dogs are at the arena by A&M...hell they have have goats, sheep, pigs and horses in there too. They will keep up to 1000 animals in there.
I am at the shelter at 1st methodist by the police station at Texas and 28th street.
Nice bathrooms each has one shower so it can't be that bad...(at least not superdome nightmarish)
My cot is againt the wall so I have access to an electric outlet...we were the third and fourth bed filled so had the luxuary of picking our cots stategically...shelter has only have about 85 spaces left...so far we only have about 15 people here total.
I am getting a bit worried since the locals here are leaving for Tulsa...it is said that the storm will still be very violent when it hits here...i think maybe I didn't go far enough north and I have confirmed no hotels until you cross into Oklahoma or if you got to Wichita Falls...
Good luck to all who are planning to stick around in Houston after this mess with no electricity, no water sewer or AIR CONDITIONING especially since the last week of damn near 100 degree temps.
My prayers to all who call the Gulf Coast of Texas home...
